2026 Wolferton Stakes Preview

Run on the opening day at the Royal Ascot festival, the Wolferton Stakes is a listed race established in 2002. Open to runners aged four years old or older, the race is run over just shy of one mile and two furlongs.

The race was originally added to Royal Ascot when the festival was extended to five days and was a handicap race. In 2018, the race was moved to the opening day and was no longer a handicap race, meaning that since 2018, it has been a listed race.

No previous Group 1-2 winners are allowed to enter, with Listed (3lb) and Group 3 (5lb) winners getting penalties, whilst fillies get a 5lb allowance.

How competitive is the Wolferton Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2008, when the race had an over-round of 113%. The race in 2017 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 130%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Wolferton Stakes, the over-round has been 124%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £124 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Wolferton Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Wolferton Stakes Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the 2026 Wolferton Stakes Runners & Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run Wolferton Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

 1. Perfect Stride (2:03.24) in 2009
 2. Israr (2:03.29) in 2024
 3. Monarchs Glen (2:03.71) in 2018

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Wolferton Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 4 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +3.88. Whilst we wait for the 2026 Wolferton Stakes, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2020 renewal when Mountain Angel from Roger Varian under the guidance of James Doyle, won in a time of 2:11.90, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Perfect Stride, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Ryan Moore set the quickest time of 2:03.24 in the 2009 renewal.

What the expert says...

The 2023 & 2024 winners, as well as the winner in 2019, all came from the Huxley Stakes at Chester; those finished 4th, 5th & 2nd in the Huxley Stakes, so look beyond the winner.
