2022 Kings Stand Stakes Preview

Established in 1860, the Kings Stand Stakes was originally created due to the Royal Stand Plate not being able to be run due to heavy rain. The two miles race was replaced by this 5f race as it was the only part of the racecourse which was raceable.

The Group 1 race takes place on the opening day of Royal Ascot and is the top five-furlong race at the festival. The race is open to runners aged three years or older with three-year-old runners running off 8-12 and the older runners off 9-4, fillies and mares also get a 3lb allowance.

We also have a dedicated Royal Ascot Betting Picks page that will cover this race as well as all of the other races on the day of the race, see which runners the OLBG racing tipsters are predicting to win this race and the others on the cards.

Over the last 20 renewals, it was the Lee Freedman trained Miss Andretti ridden by Craig Newitt who has set the fastest winning time in the Kings Stand Stakes, the runner won the race in a time of 57.44 that was set when winning the race in 2007. At the other end of the scale, it was the combination of trainer Clive Cox and jockey Adam Kirby with Profitable who set the slowest winning time, the race-winning time was 1:02.69 in the 2016 renewal.

These are the top three quickest run Kings Stand Stakes over the last 20 renewals:

  • 2007 - Miss Andretti (57.44)
  • 2017 - Lady Aurelia (57.45)
  • 2005 - Chineur (57.55)

How competitive is the Kings Stand Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2020 when the race had an over-round of 115%. The race in 2011 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 131%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Kings Stand Stakes, the over-round has been 122% that means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £122 which is bet.

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? From the past 20 if you had followed the winner of the Kings Stand Stakes next time out then you would have back a total of 4 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since to win at SP next time out, would have returned an LSP of -3.96. Remember to use the racing predictions along with the information on this page to find you a bet on the 2022 Kings Stand Stakes.
