2026 King Charles III Stakes Preview

Established in 1860, the King Charles III Stakes was created due to the Royal Stand Plate being unable to run due to heavy rain.

This five-furlong race replaced the two-mile race as it was the only part of the racecourse which was raceable. The Group 1 race takes place on the opening day of Royal Ascot and is the top five-furlong race at the festival.

The race is open to runners aged three years or older, with three-year-old runners running off 8-12 and the older runners off 9-4. Fillies and mares also get a 3lb allowance.

King Charles III Stakes Information:

We also have a dedicated Royal Ascot tips page that will cover this race, as well as all the other races on the day. See which runners the OLBG racing tipsters are predicting to win this race and the others on the cards. We cover every race at Royal Ascot, and below you can find links to all of the races for each of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday. In addition to those, we also cover numerous races at Ascot during the flat season; you can find links to those here.

 2. Lady Aurelia (57.45) in 2017
 3. Blue Point (58.14) in 2018

Remember to bookmark the racing tips page to access the OLBG racing picks easily daily.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2016 renewal when Profitable from Clive Cox under the guidance of Adam Kirby, won in a time of 1:02.69, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Miss Andretti, trained by Lee Freedman and ridden by Craig Newitt set the quickest time of 57.44 in the 2007 renewal.

What the expert says...

The 2025 winner, American Affair, came after finishing 5th in the Temple Stakes, which was the sixth runner to win this race after running in the Temple Stakes since 2010.
