2027 Norfolk Stakes Preview

A Group 2 race run at Royal Ascot in June of each year, the Norfolk Stakes is a race open to two-year-olds only and is run over five furlongs.

Established in 1843, it had the original title of the New Stakes; it was changed to its current title in 1973 and was upgraded to Group 2 status in 2006.

The race serves as a 'Win, and You're In' race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint race, meaning the winner gets an automatic place in the race at the Breeders' Cup.

How competitive is the Norfolk Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2021, when the race had an over-round of 106%. The race in 2026 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 132%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Norfolk Stakes, the over-round has been 119%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £119 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2027 Norfolk Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Norfolk Stakes Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Norfolk Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. No Nay Never (58.80) in 2013
  2. Charles Darwin (58.87) in 2025
  3. Orthodox (59.42) in 2026

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Norfolk Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 6 winners. Backing all 17 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -1.29. Remember to bookmark the racing tips page to access the OLBG racing picks easily daily.

When looking over the past 20 renewals, a time of 58.80 was set by No Nay Never in 2013, trained by Wesley A Ward and ridden by Joel Rosario, which is the quickest time over that period. The slowest winning time was set in 2011 when Bapak Chinta won in a time of 1:03.03 for trainer Kevin Ryan, who booked Phillip Makin in the saddle.

What the expert says...
Plenty of the winners are routed to France next time out, between 2012 and 2025, eight of the winners headed over the English Channel, which have produced two victories in the Prix Robert Papin and a win in the Prix Morny.
