2025 Queen Mary Stakes Preview

Named after Queen Mary and established in 1921, the Queen Mary Stakes is a Group 2 race open to two-year-old fillies only. It is run over a trip of five furlongs and takes place in June of each year at the Royal Ascot meeting.

It's a race where Sir Gordon Richards and Fred Darling have a great record. Darling won the race seven times between 1924-46, and Richards rode five of those winners to success.

How competitive is the Queen Mary Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2005 when the race had an over-round of 119%. The race in 2019 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 142%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Queen Mary Stakes, the over-round has been 128%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £128 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2025 Queen Mary Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Queen Mary Stakes Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Queen Mary Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Flashy Wings (58.18) in 2005
  2. Anthem Alexander (59.15) in 2014
  3. Maqaasid (59.17) in 2010

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Queen Mary Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 6 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +6.40. Whilst we wait for the 2025 Queen Mary Stakes, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

Over the last 20 renewals, it was Flashy Wings, trained by Mick Channon and ridden by Ted Durcan, who set the fastest winning time in the Queen Mary Stakes. That runner won the race in a time of 58.18 in 2005. At the other end of the scale, it was the combination of trainer Richard Hannon Snr and jockey Richard Hughes with Gilded who set the slowest winning time; the race-winning time was 1:03.06 in the 2006 renewal.

What the expert says...
If you are looking for a decent prep-race, then you will be looking for a while! Of the last twelve winners, they have come from eleven different tracks let alone races!
