2026 Queen Mary Stakes Preview

Named after Queen Mary and established in 1921, the Queen Mary Stakes is a Group 2 race open to two-year-old fillies only. It is run over a trip of five furlongs and takes place in June of each year at the Royal Ascot meeting.

It's a race where Sir Gordon Richards and Fred Darling have a great record. Darling won the race seven times between 1924 and 1946, and Richards rode five of those winners to success.

How competitive is the Queen Mary Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2009, when the race had an over-round of 122%. The race in 2019 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 142%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Queen Mary Stakes, the over-round has been 128%, which means the bookie expects to pay out Β£100 for every Β£128 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Queen Mary Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Queen Mary Stakes Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the 2026 Queen Mary Stakes Runners & Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run Queen Mary Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

 1. Anthem Alexander (59.15) in 2014
 2. Maqaasid (59.17) in 2010
 3. Ceiling Kitty (59.18) in 2012

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Queen Mary Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 6 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +5.99. Remember to bookmark the racing tips page to access the OLBG racing picks easily daily.

When looking over the past 20 renewals, a time of 59.15 was set by Anthem Alexander in 2014, trained by Edward Lynam and ridden by Pat Smullen, which is the quickest time over that period. The slowest winning time was set in 2006 when Gilded won in a time of 1:03.06 for trainer Richard Hannon Snr, who booked Richard Hughes in the saddle.

What the expert says...

If you are looking for a decent prep race, then you will be looking for a while! Of the last thirteen winners, they have come from twelve different tracks, let alone races!
