You know how punters get lost in too much data or bet blindly? I break down the stats and trends so you can feel confident you’re betting with more than just gut instinct.

2026 Buckingham Palace Stakes Preview

The Buckingham Palace Stakes was initially introduced during the 2002 Royal Ascot meeting when it was expanded to five days and remained a fixture until 2014.

In 2015, it was replaced by the Commonwealth Cup; however, the race was reintroduced in 2020 when Royal Ascot was expanded to seven races for each of the five days and has remained since.

The race is contested over seven furlongs for runners who are aged three or older, and the race currently holds class two status.

How competitive is the Buckingham Palace Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 19 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2020, when the race had an over-round of 129%. The race in 2002 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 151%, whilst on average over the last 19 renewals of the Buckingham Palace Stakes, the over-round has been 140%, which means the bookie expects to pay out Β£100 for every Β£140 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Buckingham Palace Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Buckingham Palace Stakes Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the 2026 Buckingham Palace Stakes Runners & Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run Buckingham Palace Stakes races over the last 19 renewals:

 1. Jedburgh (1:22.53) in 2005
 2. Never So Brave (1:23.90) in 2025
 3. English Oak (1:25.16) in 2024

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 19 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Buckingham Palace Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 4 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -4.49. Whilst we wait for the 2026 Buckingham Palace Stakes, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

When looking over the past 19 renewals, a time of 1:22.53 was set by Jedburgh in 2005, trained by John Dunlop and ridden by Mick Kinane, which is the quickest time over that period. The slowest winning time was set in 2011 when Manassas won in a time of 1:29.71 for trainer Brian Meehan, who booked Martin Dwyer in the saddle.

What the expert says...

Since 2008, a few of the winners of this race have gone on to run in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket, five of them to be exact, and of those five, Motakhayyel (2020) was the only runner to go on to win that race.
