2022 Chesham Stakes Preview

Run at the Royal Ascot festival in June of the year, the Chesham Stakes is a listed race for two-year-old runners which is run over a trip of seven furlongs. Established in 1919, the race was originally run over five furlongs, then increased to six furlongs and has been run over the now length of seven furlongs since 1996. There are not too many races where they are restricted based on their sire records, this one is! Runners sired by a stallion who won over one mile and two furlongs or further are only allowed to enter.

If you are interested in other predictions at Royal Ascot then head over to the Royal Ascot Betting Picks page to see which runners are being supported by the OLBG racing tipsters and also compare those predictions to the runners that make the trend shortlist when added below.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2011 renewal when Maybe from A P O'Brien who under the guidance of Ryan Moore, won in a time of 1:32.46, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Championship Point, trained by Mick Channon and ridden by Ted Durcan set the quickest time of 1:24.14 in the 2005 renewal.

These are the top three quickest run Chesham Stakes over the last 20 renewals:

  • 2005 - Championship Point (1:24.14)
  • 2019 - Pinatubo (1:25.73)
  • 2017 - September (1:26.70)

How competitive is the Chesham Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2008 when the race had an over-round of 105%. The race in 2002 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 131%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Chesham Stakes, the over-round has been 120% that means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £120 which is bet.

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? From the past 20 if you had followed the winner of the Chesham Stakes next time out then you would have back a total of 7 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since to win at SP next time out, would have returned an LSP of -5.05.
