2027 Hardwicke Stakes Preview

The Hardwicke Stakes is a Group 2 race established in 1879 and is run at the Royal Ascot meeting, which takes place in June.

The race is open to runners who are four years old or older and is run over a trip just shy of one mile and four furlongs. Fillies or mares who are entered in the race receive a 3lb sex allowance.

Watch out for those who run well in this race and then return to run in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. The 2010 winner, Harbinger, won both races.

Hardwicke Stakes Information:

We also have a dedicated Royal Ascot tips page that will cover this race, as well as all the other races on the day. See which runners the OLBG racing tipsters are predicting to win this race and the others on the cards. We cover every race at Royal Ascot, and below you can find links to all of the races for each of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday. In addition to those, we also cover numerous races at Ascot during the flat season; you can find links to those here.

How competitive is the Hardwicke Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2023, when the race had an over-round of 110%. The race in 2025 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 121%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Hardwicke Stakes, the over-round has been 116%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £116 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2027 Hardwicke Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Hardwicke Stakes Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Hardwicke Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Harbinger (2:27.36) in 2010
  2. Telescope (2:27.45) in 2014
  3. Bronze Cannon (2:27.59) in 2009

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Hardwicke Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 2 winners. Backing all 17 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -10.20. Before placing your bet on the 2027 Hardwicke Stakes, see which other runners today are being backed on the racing predictions page.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2011 renewal when Await The Dawn from A P O'Brien under the guidance of Ryan Moore, won in a time of 2:38.40, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Harbinger, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Ryan Moore set the quickest time of 2:27.36 in the 2010 renewal.

What the expert says...
Thirteen winners between 2007 and 2025 headed straight to the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes; of those thirteen, only Harbinger (2010) went on to win that race, and ten have tried and failed since.
