2027 Abernant Stakes Preview

First introduced back in 1969, the Abernant Stakes is named after the sprinter Abernant, who was successful in the 40s & 50s. The race is a Group 3 open to three-year-old or older runners and is run over a straight six furlongs. There is a 3lb allowance for fillies and mares, whilst penalties for G1 (7lb), G2 (5lb) and G3 (3lb) winners in the past eight months.

Dick Hern's Boldboy won this race four times between 1974 & 1978, a feat no other runner has achieved. The race can be a springboard to the Palace House Stakes or Duke of York Stakes for those who finish well.

How competitive is the Abernant Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2023, when the race had an over-round of 112%. The race in 2008 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 131%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Abernant Stakes, the over-round has been 117%, which means the bookie expects to pay out ÂŁ100 for every ÂŁ117 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2027 Abernant Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Abernant Stakes Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Abernant Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Oxted (1:09.39) in 2020
  2. Washington Heights (1:09.53) in 2024
  3. Asset (1:09.64) in 2007

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Abernant Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 4 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +8.00. Whilst we wait for the 2027 Abernant Stakes, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

Over the last 20 renewals, it was Oxted, trained by Roger Teal and ridden by Cieren Fallon, who set the fastest winning time in the Abernant Stakes. That runner won the race in a time of 1:09.39 in 2020. At the other end of the scale, it was the combination of trainer Charles Hills and jockey Ryan Moore with Garrus who set the slowest winning time; the race-winning time was 1:15.11 in the 2023 renewal.

What the expert says...
The winner tends to go on to run in either the Duke of York Stakes or Palace House Stakes; thirteen of the winners between 2006 & 2025 did just that. Only Magical Memory (2016) went on to win the Duke of York, while Equiano (2010) & Mayson (2012) won the Palace House.
