2025 Vintage Stakes Preview

Scheduled to take place on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood in late July or early August, the Vintage Stakes is a Group 2 race which is open to two-year-old runners and run over seven furlongs.

These two-year-old runners are assigned a weight of 9-1, any fillies get a 3lb allowance, and any which have already won either a Group 1 or Group 2 have to carry a 3lb penalty.

For sponsorship purposes, the 2025 renewal of the Vintage Stakes will hold the title of 'Coral Vintage Stakes'.

How competitive is the Vintage Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2021 when the race had an over-round of 109%. The race in 2018 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 120%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Vintage Stakes, the over-round has been 115%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £115 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2025 Vintage Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Vintage Stakes Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the Vintage Stakes Trend Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run Vintage Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

 1. Aomori City (1:25.13) in 2024
 2. War Decree (1:25.75) in 2016
 3. Strategic Prince (1:26.02) in 2006

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Vintage Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 5 winners. Backing all 20 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -2.17. Before placing your bet on the 2025 Vintage Stakes, see which other runners today are being backed on the racing predictions page.

Over the last 20 renewals, it was Aomori City, trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, who set the fastest winning time in the Vintage Stakes. That runner won the race in a time of 1:25.13 in 2024. At the other end of the scale, it was the combination of trainer Ralph Beckett and jockey Frankie Dettori with Angel Bleu who set the slowest winning time; the race-winning time was 1:32.85 in the 2021 renewal.

What the expert says...

The Superlative Stakes has been responsible for five winners of this race since 2010, although they did win in 2010, 2011 & 2012, so since 2013, only two have come from that race (2016 & 2023).
