2025 Thoroughbred Stakes Preview

This race was given listed status in 1998 and also given the current name of the Thoroughbred Stakes at the same time, it has since been upgraded to a Group 3 (since 2012).

It is open to three-year-old runners only and is run over one mile, the race is run on day four of the Glorious Goodwood Festival which is staged in late July or early August.

Previous Group 1 winners cannot enter the race, fillies get a 3lbs allowance whilst previous Group 2 (7lb) and Group 3 (5lb) winners have to carry a penalty.

The race in 2009 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 122%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Thoroughbred Stakes, the over-round has been 115%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £115 which is bet.
