2025 Goodwood Cup Preview
The Goodwood Cup features on the opening day of the Glorious Goodwood festival which takes place in late July or early August, the race is a Group 1 for runners aged three or older and is a real test of stamina over a two-mile trip.
Three-year-old runners run off 8-8 with the older runners off 9-9 meaning there is a big allowance for the younger runners, fillies and mares also get a 3lb allowance. The race is the second leg of the Stayers' Triple Crown, the Ascot Gold Cup being the first leg and then the Doncaster Cup being the final leg.
The 2019 success of Stradivarius meant the runner had won the race for the third year running, the only other runner to win the race three times was Double Trigger although not consecutively, Stradivarius went on to win in 2020 also making it four successes on the bounce!
