2026 Lillie Langtry Stakes Preview

Initially run under the name of the Gladness Stakes and a Listed race in 2003, the Lillie Langtry Stakes was upgraded to a Group 3 a year later in 2004 and given its current name.

The race is open to fillies and mares who are aged three or older and is run over one mile and six furlongs. It takes place on the final day of the Glorious Goodwood festival in late July or early August.

Three-year-old runners (8-9) get an 11lb allowance over the older runners (9-6), with any Group 1 (5lb) or Group 2 (3lb) winners having to carry a penalty.

The race in 2015 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 125%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Lillie Langtry Stakes, the over-round has been 115%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £115 which is bet.

Backing all 18 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +10.93. Ahead of the 2026 Lillie Langtry Stakes, why not head over to the racing predictions for tips on other races today?

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2023 renewal when Sumo Sam from Paul & Oliver Cole under the guidance of Tom Marquand, won in a time of 3:17.66, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Meeznah, trained by David Lanigan and ridden by Frankie Dettori set the quickest time of 2:57.61 in the 2011 renewal.

What the expert says...
The Park Hill Stakes at the St Leger festival has been the target of plenty of the winners of this race. Between 2007-24, a total of seven runners have gone directly to that race, and four of those have gone on to win it, the last to do so being Sumo Sam in 2023.
