2025 King George Stakes Preview

The feature on day four of the Glorious Goodwood festival, the King George Stakes, is a Group 2 race open to runners aged three or older and is run over five furlongs.

It's a race where you cannot blink, otherwise you will miss it. It's a fast-run race with all the last twenty renewals being run in under fifty-nine seconds! Battaash, the sprint king, won four consecutive renewals (2017-20) for Charles Hills and Jim Crowley and is the most successful runner in the race.

For sponsorship purposes, the 2025 renewal of the King George Stakes will hold the title of 'King George Qatar Stakes'.

We also have a section that looks at the King George Stakes Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the King George Stakes Trend Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run King George Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Battaash (55.62) in 2020
  2. Muthmir (56.08) in 2015
  3. Battaash (56.20) in 2019

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the King George Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 3 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -10.25. Ahead of the 2025 King George Stakes, why not head over to the racing predictions for tips on other races today?

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2021 renewal when Suesa from F Rohaut under the guidance of William Buick, won in a time of 59.35, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Battaash, trained by Charles Hills and ridden by Jim Crowley set the quickest time of 55.62 in the 2020 renewal.

What the expert says...
Big Evs in 2024 became the sixth runner to win this race since 2008, having run in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out. The last four of those finished 2nd, 2nd, 1st & 3rd in that race before winning this.
