2022 Prix Rothschild Preview

Established in 1929 and originally called the Prix d'Astarté, the now named Prix Rothschild was given its current name in 2008 in memory of the breeder/owner who contributed to French racing, Guy de Rothschild. The race is scheduled to take place in either late July or in August of each year at the Deauville racecourse, it's a Group 1 that is run over a trip of one mile (1,600 metres) and is open to only fillies and mares who are aged three or older.

The race is no stranger to a winning British or Irish raider, Mick Channon won the race with Ascension in 2001, John Gosden won back-to-back renewals with Elusive Kate (2012 & 2013), David O'Meara won in it 2016 (Amazing Maria), Adian O'Brien in 2017 (Roly Poly), Karl Burke in 2019 with Laurens and then Aidan O'Brien again in 2020 with Mother Earth which means since Goldikova won four on the spin (2008-11), six of the last ten renewals have gone to either a British or Irish raider!

We also have a dedicated Deauville Betting Picks page that will cover this race as well as all of the other races on the day of the race, see which runners the OLBG racing tipsters are predicting to win this race and the others on the cards.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2002 renewal when Turtle Bow from F Rohaut who under the guidance of Christophe Soumillon, won in a time of 1:40.50, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Watch Me, trained by F-H Graffard and ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot set the quickest time of 1:34.05 in the 2020 renewal.

These are the top three quickest run Prix Rothschild over the last 20 renewals:

  • 2020 - Watch Me (1:34.05)
  • 2011 - Goldikova (1:34.30)
  • 2015 - Amazing Maria (1:34.72)

How competitive is the Prix Rothschild market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2012 when the race had an over-round of 108%. The race in 2004 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 132%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Prix Rothschild, the over-round has been 121% that means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £121 which is bet.

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? From the past 20 if you had followed the winner of the Prix Rothschild next time out then you would have back a total of 4 winners. Backing all 18 runners who have been out since to win at SP next time out, would have returned an LSP of -3.85. Remember to use the racing predictions along with the information on this page to find you a bet on the 2022 Prix Rothschild.
