2026 Prix Rothschild Preview

Established in 1929 and originally called the Prix d'Astarté, the now-named Prix Rothschild was given its current name in 2008 in memory of the breeder/owner who contributed to French racing, Guy de Rothschild. The race is scheduled to take place in either late July or in August of each year at the Deauville racecourse. It's a Group 1 race run over a trip of one mile (1,600 metres) and is open only to fillies and mares aged three or older.

The race is no stranger to a winning British or Irish raider, Mick Channon won the race with Ascension in 2001, John Gosden won back-to-back renewals with Elusive Kate (2012 & 2013), David O'Meara won it in 2016 (Amazing Maria), Adian O'Brien in 2017 (Roly Poly), Karl Burke in 2019 with Laurens, Aidan O'Brien again in 2021 with Mother Earth, Jane Chapple-Hyam in 2022 with Saffron Beach and then again Karl Burke was Fallen Angel in 2025.

How competitive is the Prix Rothschild market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2012 when the race had an over-round of 108%. The race in 2007 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 125%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Prix Rothschild, the over-round has been 119%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £119 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Prix Rothschild Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Prix Rothschild Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Prix Rothschild races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Watch Me (1:34.05) in 2020
  2. Goldikova (1:34.30) in 2011
  3. Amazing Maria (1:34.72) in 2015

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Prix Rothschild next time out, then you would have backed a total of 6 winners. Backing all 18 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +2.05. Ahead of the 2026 Prix Rothschild, why not head over to the racing predictions for tips on other races today?

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2016 renewal when Qemah from J-C Rouget under the guidance of Gregory Benoist, won in a time of 1:38.09, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Watch Me, trained by F-H Graffard and ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot, set the quickest time of 1:34.05 in the 2020 renewal.

What the expert says...
Keep an eye out for the first two from the Falmouth if they are entered here, they have supplied six winners since 2009, Goldikova (2009), Elusive Kate (2013), Amazing Maria (2015) and Roly Poly (2017) all won both races whilst Elusive Kate (2012) and Mother Earth (2021) went one better here at finishing runner-up in the Falmouth.
