2025 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris Preview

Scheduled to take place in May of each year at the Auteuil racecourse is the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris. This Group 1 is run over a distance of 6,000m or three miles and six furlongs and is the richest French jumps race.

The race was originally established in 1874 to be the equivalent to the Aintree Grand National and was originally run over 6,400m (4m), however, that was cut to the current 6,000m just one year after its creation.

In 1890 the race underwent further changes which put it in line with the Cheltenham Gold Cup with the handicap status being scrapped and going with a 'weight-for-age' system instead, the race is now more the French Gold Cup than the French Grand National.
