You know how punters get lost in too much data or bet blindly? I break down the stats and trends so you can feel confident you’re betting with more than just gut instinct.

2027 Triumph Hurdle Preview

First run in 1939, the Triumph Hurdle is for four-year-old juvenile novices only, negotiating eight hurdles over two miles and one furlong of the new course at Cheltenham and is the opening race on the final day of the festival. The race is perhaps not as competitive numbers-wise since the introduction of the Juvenile Handicap Hurdle to the festival in 2005.

This race has an incredible pedigree for producing future legends. Tiger Roll won this in 2014 before his historic Grand National double, and it has produced four subsequent Champion Hurdle winners (Clair Soleil, Persian War, Kribensis, and Katchit).

How competitive is the Triumph Hurdle market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2018, when the race had an over-round of 113%. The race in 2007 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 130%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Triumph Hurdle, the over-round has been 122%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £122 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2027 Triumph Hurdle Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Triumph Hurdle Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Triumph Hurdle races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Zarkandar (3:54.20) in 2011
  2. Katchit (3:54.60) in 2007
  3. Ivanovich Gorbatov (3:55.10) in 2016

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Triumph Hurdle next time out, then you would have backed a total of 8 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -2.11. Remember to use the racing predictions along with the information on this page to find a bet on the 2027 Triumph Hurdle.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2024 renewal when Majborough from W P Mullins under the guidance of Mark Walsh, won in a time of 4:17.52, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Zarkandar, trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Daryl Jacob set the quickest time of 3:54.20 in the 2011 renewal.

What the expert says...
It is no secret that the Spring Juvenile Hurdle, which is run at Leopardstown, is a cracking prep race for the Triumph Hurdle. Four of the last six winners of this race all come here having run in that race last time out, and looking back further, nine of the last fifteen renewals have been won by a runner who finished in the first four in the Spring Juvenile Hurdle last time out.
