You know how punters get lost in too much data or bet blindly? I break down the stats and trends so you can feel confident youโ€™re betting with more than just gut instinct.

2026 Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Preview

Inaugurated in 1946 and better known as simply the Kim Muir, named in honour of Kim Muir, a cavalry officer who lost his life in World War II. This race is a handicap chase for amateur jockeys only and is run over 3m2f on the new course at Cheltenham. The Kim Muir has been a stepping stone to the Grand National in the past, with 2010 winner Ballabriggs going on to Aintree glory and the 2012 winner Sunnyhillboy losing out in the National by a whisker.

Additionally, Cause of Causes took this in 2016 and went on to finish runner-up in the 2017 Grand National. Ireland had not won this race since 1983 until 2014, but they have now won seven of the last ten renewals, so the tide has changed.

For sponsorship purposes, the 2026 renewal of the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup will hold the title of 'Rosconn Group Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys Handicap Chase'.

Whilst we wait for the 2026 Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

When looking over the past 20 renewals, a time of 6:10.30 was set by Youre Special in 2006, trained by Ferdy Murphy and ridden by Mr R O Harding, which is the quickest time over that period. The slowest winning time was set in 2024 when Inothewayurthinkin won in a time of 7:13.43 for trainer Gavin Cromwell, who booked Mr Derek O'Connor in the saddle.

What the expert says...
If you want to save yourself some money, then it would probably be best not to follow the winner of this race next time out! Only three winners of this race between 2006 & 2024 went on to win next time out; thirteen of those finished fifth or worse.
