You know how punters get lost in too much data or bet blindly? I break down the stats and trends so you can feel confident you’re betting with more than just gut instinct.

2027 Festival Hunters Chase Preview

First run in 1904, the Festival Hunters Chase is run over the Gold Cup distance of three miles and two and a half furlongs, restricted to amateur riders only, the 'Amateurs Gold Cup' here at Cheltenham. The race is open to runners who have either twice won a Point to Point (PTP) race or those who have finished in the first two of a Hunter Chase at least twice.

Because it’s for amateurs, the race is often filled with incredible human stories, from farmers riding their own horses to Olympic cyclists like Victoria Pendleton, who famously finished fifth in 2016. Many of the older runners will have contested handicap chases under national hunt rules in their early days. Who are our racing tipsters tipping to win the 'Amateurs Gold Cup'?

How competitive is the Festival Hunters Chase market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2024, when the race had an over-round of 120%. The race in 2007 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 136%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Festival Hunters Chase, the over-round has been 130%, which means the bookie expects to pay out ÂŁ100 for every ÂŁ130 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2027 Festival Hunters Chase Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Festival Hunters Chase Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Festival Hunters Chase races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Zemsky (6:37.20) in 2011
  2. Pacha Du Polder (6:42.80) in 2017
  3. Salsify (6:44.40) in 2012

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Festival Hunters Chase next time out, then you would have backed a total of 7 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -2.13. Whilst we wait for the 2027 Festival Hunters Chase, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

When looking over the past 20 renewals, a time of 6:37.20 was set by Zemsky in 2011, trained by I R Ferguson and ridden by Mr Derek O'Connor, which is the quickest time over that period. The slowest winning time was set in 2024 when Sine Nomine won in a time of 7:17.70 for trainer Fiona Needham, who booked Mr John Dawson in the saddle.

What the expert says...
There was a spell for the Irish Raiders between 2006 & 2016 where 7 of the 11 winners ran in Ireland last time out; however, since then, only two of the nine winners ran in Ireland last time out.
