2025 Mares Novices Hurdle Preview

In July 2015 it was announced that the Cheltenham Festival would be benefiting from a new novice hurdle race restricted to just mares and fillies with the introduction of the Dawn Run Mares Novice Hurdle.

This Grade 2 race is run over 2m1f on the new course and it is expected that Willie Mullins, who has dominated the Mares' Hurdle previously sponsored by OLBG, will be the trainer to follow, especially after winning the inaugural event with Limini and then the following four renewals with Let's Dance (2017), Laurina (2018), Eglantine Du Seuil (2019) and Concertista (2020).

Mares Novices Hurdle Trends:

From the past 9 if you had followed the winner of the Mares Novices Hurdle next time out then you would have backed a total of 2 winners. Before placing your bet on the 2025 Mares Novices Hurdle see which other runners today are being backed on the racing predictions page.

Over the last 9 renewals, it was the W P Mullins trained Limini ridden by R Walsh who set the fastest winning time in the Mares Novices Hurdle, the runner won the race in a time of 3:58.00 was set when winning the race in 2016. At the other end of the scale, it was the combination of trainer Jeremy Scott and jockey Lorcan Williams with Golden Ace who set the slowest winning time, the race-winning time was 4:20.60 in the 2024 renewal.

These are the top three quickest-run Mares Novices Hurdle over the last 9 renewals:

  3. Eglantine Du Seuil (4:02.74) in 2019
What the expert says...
Still early days for the Mares Novices Hurdle with just nine renewals completed but one thing which stands out already is you want a mare who has a bit of speed about her, only 49% of the runners competing in this race had achieved a TS of at least 85 last time out and those have produced all nine of the winners so far, those who achieved a TS of under 85 last time out are currently 0-78.
