Now is the time of year where in general the 3yo's start to take
more advantage of their weight for age allowance in handicaps.
During the early part of the year, the majority of 3yo's haven't
strengthened up enough to take on their elders.
The majority of punters will usually wait until after the Royal
Ascot meeting, before taking note of the 3yo's running in 3yo and
upwards handicaps, as they are now more able to take advantage of
their allowances.
It wouldn't pay to follow all 3yo's blindly, from now until the end
of the season but some targeted strikes could prove a nice boost to
the betting bank over the summer.
Taking all handicap results over the past 10 years, the 3yo's show
a good 2% improvement in their win rate during July and August, as
the year progresses the weight for age scale of allowances reduces,
giving the 3yo's less of an advantage.
Other things to note are that its more productive to stay clear of
sprint races and concentrate on those races over a mile or
longer.
There will be plenty of races, with more than one 3yo taking on
their elders and rather than trying to cover all of the runners,
I've come up with a points system, based on set criteria, that will
try to pin point which of the 3yo runners could be the best one to
invest your stake.
This system is based on 3yo+ handicaps only, I won't be betting on
any maiden or selling handicaps, nor any handicaps solely for
amateurs or apprentices.
I will be basing the points issued to each qualifier using the
following Criteria
PRICE
2nd Fav = 3 points
3rd fav = 2 points
All others 1 point
These prices as always will be subject to changes in the market, for the purpose of the Blog I will use the SP's stated, around 11am time.
GENDER
Gelding = 3 points
Filly = 1 point
WEIGHT
8-7 to 9-0 = 3 points
8-6 and below = 1 point
FITNESS
Days since last run
15 to 28 days = 3 points
29 to 56 days = 2 points
57 days + = 1 point
