We recommend that when signing up for any betting site, you don’t base your decision purely on their current free bets or welcome offers, so read on for a full user review to help you decide.
We do show the welcome offer, but for a full rundown on the offer and its details, as well as other promotions that they run across all sports, you should head to the William Hill free bets page.

Banking Options
The deposit process here is simple, accepting a variety of different payment methods, and that goes for withdrawals, too. Customers can choose between Visa, PayPal and Paysafe Cards. They also accept phone payments.
There’s no debating that William Hill is one of the best bookmakers in the UK. Being in the top 10 for so many categories is testament to that, and there’s only one bookie in the country that makes more of these lists than Hills.
You can tell from the sports that William Hill is particularly good at – greyhounds, horse racing, darts, snooker etc. – that there is an old school, heritage feel about the brand. They’ve been doing this a long time and doing it well, while being to stay relevant and add new features to their product that perform better than other bookies (think newer additions like cash out and bet builder).
The website could be a bit cleaner – there’s definitely a lot to take in and it can all feel a bit cluttered and difficult to navigate at times. Once you’re used to it and using it regularly you can get past this, however.
William Hill Review Summary
All in all, this is one of the best bookies in the country.
Advantages and Disadvantages
All explained in greater detail in this review, these pros and cons allow users to scan and understand where the strengths lie quickly.
Pros

Who are William Hill?
William Hill was founded in 1934 and has been a household name in the UK for some time. In recent years they have also become one of the UK’s top online bookies, offering great odds on loads of different sports and events.
The Hills betting offers are generally available for both new and existing customers, and they have improved their range of offers and promos every year.
William Hill leads the way with "request odds", where you ask for a price and the William Hill compilers supply your personalised odds. They also offer a huge section of pre-loaded bet builder odds, they have so many variations under the #YourOdds hashtag you will be spoilt for choice.
This William Hill review was conducted across the desktop and mobile versions of the site, as well as on their app, so will reflect all three platforms.
William Hill has been one of the most recognisable bookmakers on the UK high street for nearly 100 years, and remains a big player in the space with its online offering.
At OLBG, we conduct data on all UK bookmakers, reviewing how good they are at hundreds of different aspects of gambling. As it stands, William Hill makes our top 10 in the country for 10 different categories. They are darts, politics, entertainment, cricket, greyhounds, snooker, tennis and motor sports, plus cash out and bet builders. There are next to no bookies that can match William Hill for this high-end consistency.
Live in-play betting is available on William Hill, just look for the in-play section of their main menu. The offering is great. There’s some football, tennis and cricket, plus handball and esports. Look a little closer and you’ll find beach volleyball, esports and table tennis. They’ve got most things covered.
Most of these have supporting stats, including football, tennis and a few other sports. You can see how it compares to our best bookmakers for in-play betting list here.
William Hill In-Play Radio

Live Streaming
With live betting comes live streaming and William Hill does this through its William Hill TV, broadcasting from 24 different racecourses around the country. Their service can be watched by all William Hill customers, who just need to log into their account before following the steps below which differ depending on the device in use.
In addition to this, you can live stream selected basketball, football, cricket and tennis matches.
Betting Odds
William Hill App is competitive with betting odds. The percentage figure you see is how often you would be getting the best odds for a particular sport if you used only the William Hill betting app.
EG, if you see William Hill in 2nd place for a sport, and a percentage of 48% - it means that there is one other bookmaker who is best priced more often, but even if you stuck with William Hill you would get the best odds 48% of the time. Also, remember that it is always worth checking alternative betting options, including best spread betting sites and betting exchange sites, depending on who you are as a bettor.
Betting App or Mobile Site
The William Hill app does an excellent job in covering all your betting requirements when on the go. As well as the William Hill sportsbook, there is gaming, slots, tables and casino options available, once you have initially downloaded the William Hill app.
The A-Z sports tab was in the right place and the black coloured headers stood out and separated the different sections of the app. The menu was incredibly user-friendly, no whistles or bells, just a list of sports, exactly what you want. The William Hill app didn’t all meld into one, which made finding what you were after simple.
The William Hill app was one of the best apps we tested in the navigation category, in other words everything I was looking for on the William Hill app I found easily. When you are packed in like sardines on a commuter train, or looking to place a bet whilst in the queue for coffee, placing a bet via an app needs to be simple.
The William Hill app could not be faulted for ease of use. Take a look at the carousel of screenshots below, we think you will agree that it looks intuitive, even for novice bettors we expect there would be no issues. The William Hill quick bet facility is a boon, when you select a price on an event a quick slip instantly opens, meaning you can get on in seconds. App users can also set a default start page, where having checked OLBG tipsters football predictions or horse racing predictions you can choose the football or horse racing start page. Compare to the best betting apps in the country.
⚽ Football Betting
When it comes to football betting sites in the UK, William Hill have been around for longer than pretty much anyone else on the high street, and their experience shows because the product that put out is excellent. They offer Odds Boosts and Early Pay Outs, as well as decent stats to go along with their in-play betting, but their real strength is the amount of different leagues and competitions that they cover, it’s as good as any out there and they have a great welcome offer.
You can see in the chart below, in greater detail, why certain bookies rank among the top for football betting sites, and why William Hill is among them.

Bet Builder
The William Hill bet builder is really good. William Hill calls it “Build #YourOdds” as the chance to “create your own acca”. There are heaps of different markets, and plenty of ways that you can tailor your bet to you. You can delve into this in more detail on our 10 best bet builder sites.
Bonuses
You can obviously use the welcome offer to place football bets, but on top of that there were a couple of football-specific offers that I could find in addition to the bet boosts.
William Hill has daily acca best boosts and daily Build #YourOdds boosts, meaning that most, if not all, days you bet you’ll find ways of upping your odds. There is also a free to play game – correctly predict five questions on a selected match and you’ll get £20 in free bets.
Cash Out
Cash Out is, of course, available at William Hill, and it’s actually one of the best in the country when it comes to this feature. They offer Cash Out (Cash In My Bet) and Partial Cash Out (Partial Cash In My Bet) options for single and multiple bets. Cash Out allows you to secure a profit or minimise losses before settling, while Partial Cash Out lets you cash in part of your bet. Look for the symbols under "Open Bets".

🏇 Horse Racing
This is something that William Hill is known for. Their horse racing product is really good and you can see how it compares to our Best Horse Racing Betting Sites here. Within the racing section you’ll see racecards for upcoming meets, all the races which have extra places offered, as well as the ability to build your own racecard.
William Hill offers Best Odds Guaranteed to its customers. You can get BOG after 10am on race day of all UK and Irish races, including in multiples, and with a maximum restriction set at £2,500.
Great Bookie for Horse Racing
🇺🇸 US Sports Betting
A full range of American Sports is available. At the time of writing, all the major leagues are in full swing.
🏈 American Football Betting
When you land on an American football section, you want to see game lines, with spread, total and moneyline markets right there. Thankfully, you get that at William Hill. Some UK bookmakers try to Anglicise US sports, but removing the spread is completely the wrong thing to do as it’s the main thing punters look for from the off, so it’s great to see William Hill avoiding this common mistake.
The NFL Build #YourOdds allows you to give any game a boost if the odds are already more than 3/1. It’s worth checking out our best NFL betting sites to see how William Hill compares overall.
🏀 Basketball Betting
The great news is that you can watch live NBA games through William Hill TV, something that puts it way ahead of most UK bookmakers.
In addition to that, that there are events for the top leagues around the world, including the EuroLeague, Greece, Italy, and Australia. In terms of specific markets, you’ll find moneyline, total points and handicaps, plus plenty more. You can also bet in-play, with odds available quarter by quarter. Keep tabs on the top basketball betting sites though, to see if they make it onto our list.
⚾ Baseball Betting
For MLB, you can choose from markets such as the outright winner of the series, the two teams that make it to the World Series, as well as all the usuals – Run Line, Winning Margin and Team To Score First Run and so on. There are also markets for the Korean and Taiwanese leagues.
🏒 Ice Hockey Betting
The NHL is front and centre, understandably, in the William Hill ice hockey section. You’ll also find competitions in Finland, Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and more, as well as US college competitions. Their betting markets include Puck Line, Money Line, Total Goals, Highest Scoring Period, Double Chance, Winning Margin, Win/Draw/Win Betting and a selection of 3-Way Handicaps.
🎯 Darts Betting
Matthew Edgar
Darts Editor and WDF Professional
William Hill is great for darts betting promotions, and those really ramp up when we get to World Championships time, while their in-play and live streaming options are quality, too. On top of all that, they have excellent market coverage – think nearly 20 different markets for a Modus league game. They make our top 10 for UK darts betting sites.
For odds and markets William Hill is one of the best greyhound betting sites in the country. On top of the all UK and Irish races (as expected) they also offer most races from around the world (Japan, the United States, Australia etc.) For those that want to watch races live, you can tune into William Hill TV, and in the absence of any live events, this virtual racing is about the best going. If you have put your bets together, you’ll be pleased to know that William Hill offers acca insurance, also. See how they compare among the best greyhound betting sites in the UK.

Snooker Betting
Steve Madgwick
Editor-In-Chief
William Hill has pretty much the best snooker odds out there, and rank no.3 overall for best snooker betting sites. A reliable, trusted UK bookmaker for decades, William Hill has built a reputation as one of the best in the business for good reason. Thankfully, they’ve moved with the times, and have ensured that their app is perfect for snooker betting. Once you’ve found the snooker tab you’ll be greeted with plenty of markets, across all the snooker events that you’d expect, with live streaming on selected tournaments.
Rugby betting markets (across League and Union) offered for individual matches include 3-Way Handicap, Total Points, Winning Margin and a range of Try Scorer options. All the major leagues and competitions are covered across both codes which is great to see. You can see how William Hill does compared to our best rugby betting sites.
🏏 Cricket Betting
James Banting
Tipster Competition Assistant
Based on our research, only William Hill and Star Sports have the best cricket odds in the country. The two bookmakers are the best places to go for cricket odds. They both have a brilliant range in markets and have simply applied their focus in providing the best prices. Cricket fans who wish to line shop, and find the best value that they can, aren’t going to find any cricket betting sites that offer better than William Hill or Star Sports.
By James Banting - Yet another sport that William Hill ranks in the top 10 for. For tennis, William Hill is a great example of determining what type of bettor you are, and finding the best bookmaker accordingly. If you want great odds pre-match then BetVictor may edge William Hill, at least in a few markets, but, as mentioned, in-player bettors who want to watch the action would prefer William Hill. You can stream matches, use the in-game statistics, and cash out at any point if you think momentum is beginning to shift.
🏌️ Golf Betting
By James Banting - It’s difficult to fault the golf output here. There are future markets on all the majors, as well as the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup. There are also LIV Golf Events, the Andalucia Masters, BMW Ladies Championship, plus a few more. You will find golf odds on the likes of Top 5 and Top 10 Finish, Round Leaders and Dual Forecast right here, and even Hole In One markets.
🏎️ Motorsports Betting
Andy Powell
Content Editor
One of the best motorsports betting sites in the UK. William Hill has great variety in markets, amazing event coverage and excellent in-play betting. Their odds are also very good, probably second best in the entire industry. That said, it’s very close, and William Hill’s motorsport offering is still right up there with the absolute best.
I like betting on boxing with William Hill. There’s plenty of bouts listed, with loads of markets in each, including Round Betting, Total Rounds (Under/Over), Round Group Betting and Will The Fight Go The Distance. Closer to the time of each fight you get good bonuses and promotions added, too.
Whilst these sports might sound very niche, there is a massive market for fans, and millions of them in the UK, so good coverage of niche sports and events is key to be reviewed on OLBG.
Other Sports at William Hill 🌍🏀🏐🚴🎮
William Hill offers diverse betting options: handball 🏆, volleyball 🏐, cycling 🚴, Aussie rules 🏉, and esports 🎮. Explore global matches, detailed stats, and infinite markets.
William Hill offers extensive betting options for Handball, volleyball, cycling, AFL betting, and esports. Handball includes global competitions; volleyball, covers European Championships and various tournaments; cycling features future tours and current races; AFL betting has comprehensive stats and esports offers all major games like League of Legends and CS:GO.
🗳️ Political Betting
Nigel Skinner
Blog Content Manager
You can compare William Hill to other political betting options and see if you agree. We have them as the 6th best in the country based on all our collected data. Regional by-elections take top billing on its politics page only emphasises the effort put into UK political betting markets. Newcomers will love the additional information provided on the same page, with a “jargon buster”, as well as political betting tips, what to look out for, and links to political betting promotions.
As with its politics offering, William Hill is fantastic for entertainment and specials, too, and are the 5th best in the country based on our ranking of the best entertainment bookmakers in the UK. They have a consistently excellent offering on specials and entertainment bets. One thing that sets William Hill apart from a lot of its competitors is the merging of entertainment and sport, with odds on ESPY Awards winners right in among a tonne of reality TV markets and whether Harry Kane is going to get knighted or not. For sheer variety, William Hill is hard to beat.
You can also check out OLBG’s latest addition; our Best Bingo Sites. All of which are, obviously, sites fully licensed by the UK Gambling Commission.
William Hill Account Opening Process
You can register from this OLBG page or the OLBG App; either way, you will receive the latest offers. To create your new account, you will need to click the banner on this OLBG page. To register, you will need to:

Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]
Overall the navigation is a bit cluttered. There’s a lot of information crammed into each page which may be a little disorientating for some, but I never found it hard to find anything and, to be honest, kept seeing little alerts or icons telling me about various things (if there is cash out, price boosts, live streaming etc) that normally you have to hunt around for. You definitely get the sense that people who bet regularly are involved in designing the product.
Placing a bet
This section should only really highlight if there are issues, as the process is almost identical on every site.
Placing a bet on William Hill is straightforward with the betslip instantly popping up on the side of your screen on the desktop site. This adds your selection straight into your slip with the speed of placing the bet after clicking it less than a second.
The app is fairly similar to the desktop site with the betslip going at the bottom of your screen as soon as you pick your selection on there. In-play betting will always be slower to place a bet but from the example bets that we did we found that the prices stayed the same for the few seconds it took for the bet to process in-play.
Managing your account
An integral part of any betting site is the account management side of things with the ease of access to various account details always important. Plenty of options are available in the My Account section of William Hill including Bet History, Banking History and overall transactions.
Safer Gambling portals can be found in the account section too with William Hill's safer gambling portal a brilliant tool to use on the site and app. Deposit limits, current time alerts, specific product restrictions and more can be found in the safer gambling section.
Responsible Gambling Features
You can set your deposit limit while you’re signing up; long before you’ve got close to actually making a bet.
There is also a Settings tab at the bottom of the page, no matter what page you’re on, that allows you to make changes to limits, as well as odds formats, or odds change preferences/notifications.
There are the following measures within its functionality:

Impressive range of markets on display
Reviewed: June 2025
by PoeticJustice
Having never really punted with many of the big bookmakers, mainly because at one time they didn't offer the range of markets the new players offered as they attempted to gain their slice of the market. but going back to review William Hill i was more than pleasantly surprised at the range of markets in nearly all sports but in particular some of ny favourites. Each snooker match at the Worlds has 50 or so markets and the boxing (Tyson Fury) has 26 markets. My other betting passion, formula one had a range of short, medium and long time that covered all drivers and constructors in match bets. So there was an opportunity to bet on every aspect of a race, who would win, podium, finish in the points, matches and dnf bets.
All in all lots to choose from across the full range of sports. A top betting site. I will be signing up immediately.

Been using William Hill online account since 2011 and had no problems at all. Good free bet offers via the scratch of the day feature which can throw up a selection of offers but most frequently is bet £5 get £2 free bet. A bonus drop feature which can daily give free spins on the casino or more recently Accra bonus when if you spend £20 you get a &5 free Accra.
Horse racing prices are competitive and with enhancements on each way places on some of the bigger field races it suits my style of betting. Website is easy to use and fast and simple to place all your bets. So 5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

I've used Hills number of years and have found them to be very good. Online and in the shop. Customer Service is fantastic. With the installation of the betting terminals you literally have hundreds of lines you can play on any given game aside from the usual Win Lose or Draw. Invariably promotions in store too, and of late big push on marketing through daily newspapers offering free £5 bets. But for me it's Customer Service which makes them preferred bookie whenever there has been an issue proved excellent in resolving

I only use William hill for horse racing.
Pros - 1. Easy to get started
2. Offer decent prices on horse racing and have many markets with the insure market one of my favourites
3. Never had any problems withdrawing money
4. Can live stream the race for free if you bet at least 1 pound
5. Get a free bet on big events, i don't use them though
6. Customer service is not as bad as some people say
Cons - 1. They quite often offer the lowest price on winning horses
2. Most of my bets get transferred to the trader who offers to let me put so much of my original bet on
3. The cash out bet option is pointless as they don't offer much
4. Sometimes slow at getting the prices up for the next day
5. The insure market should be open the day before like the main market
6. They will offer the best price out of all the bookies on horses that don't usually win
3.8 out of 5 stars

William Hill getting better

i for years considered william hill below ladbroeks and in my list of hated bookies, this changed once they relaunched their site amd brought in more competitive pricing.
I deposited and found them easy enough to deal with and pretty quick. On major markets they have some good prices, and they have also had some stand out prices at times which i have taken up, recommeded for casual punter looking for bit value in premiership prices and like.
Their in running lets them down bit, and depending on your markets navigating can be tricky, and bets from odds comparisions sites dont load to betting slip which is pity.
Horse racing wise their average not takin much risk on prices.

If football is your bag then William Hill probably offer the best prices and their website is pretty easy to navigate around. Minor sports like American Football seem to suffer though and not every match is priced up. My only problem was in the summer where they took ages to play out on Sri Lanka winning their world cup 20/20 group. Three online chats later and after being told it hadn't been decided, I finally got my money. All in all, I like their website which makes it quick and easy and with so much competition out there it makes a lot of difference. I also found their free bet offer rewarding and simple which can not be said for some other firms.

Not the best by far but not the worst bookie

So The greatest thing you can say about williamhill is the payouts are instant and available to withdraw soon as the win occurs, but other than that williamhill is trash they have so many sports listed like horse racing, cycling, etc , but there will never be any matches even when horse racing is everyday almost, also they don't have itf matches for tennis for prematch and the ones they have live are very few, the limited options is why this is a 3 also if you wanted to avoid a ticket they won't do it if the lines change sometimes but have done it before they can't make their mind up you only use williamhill if you have too and where I live that's one of the better options so I deal with it

I had problem with limitations when placing bets at William Hill. Max stakes were very low, especially if I wanted to place a singles. Like they are forcing you to play more acca. This was couple of years ago, maybe they improved, but I doubt it.

Website not really up to scratch compared to others, very disappointed when B.O.G. were stopped until late morning. However, the prices appear to be competitive enough when I, rarely, use Hills

Would be nice to have BOG on horse racing odds earlier. WH don't offer BOG till 10am on the day of racing(worst bookie out there) Bet365 the offer BOG the day before. Very poor cash out offers if any offered. The website is not the best to navigate and plenty others preferred. 2 stars for their "fixed" scratch of the day and Bonus Explorer.

You can judge a company by their customer service and William Hills is very poor.Pretty much a like it or lump it attitude but maybe that is for the smaller gambler?
It is a shame because they have decent markets and specials but just don't have a problem!!!

Poor Customer Service

"I have been a customer with William Hill for around 20 years and recently won a modest amount. However, my payment was suspended, and I was required to verify my identity through their 'live chat' system. This involved uploading photos, but the website repeatedly froze or crashed, making the process extremely frustrating. It took 30 minutes to complete the verification. Despite this, the suspended payment remained unresolved, even though deposits and other payments continued to work normally.
I contacted William Hill again, and after another 30-minute session, the original payment was still declined. Strangely, the combined total of the two payments was marked as paid shortly after the live chat, but there was no explanation or apology from them. The communication was minimal, leaving me feeling more like a nuisance than a valued customer."

Recent security issue

Had a recent security check (that's ok with me), but it left me unable to access my account (and cash) during Cheltenham week so I had to go elsewhere and was won over by the better prices at the site I went to. The virtual assistant with WH just took me around in circles when all I wanted to do was speak to a human being. I took it to Twitter X, which is advised on the site and they advised there was nothing they could do! This was resolved a week later when eventually I got to speak to a human and was able to withdraw the winnings from my account. I have been with William Hill since they started online, but this was just dire and so disappointing during Cheltenham week. Better odds available elsewhere and customer service cannot possible be worse, so time to move on.

Their approach to gambling is starting to look very aged. I don't ever remember seeing a promo from them where I have though” that looks interesting". Their shops are starting to look old and a little outdated and not a patch on ‘Betfred’. Back to online betting, they are one of the oldest and established bookmakers but my biggest gripe is for them to only offer best-odds at 10am on the day of the race and not at the opening show the evening before, in this day and age, I feel is quite shocking.
