Michigan Sports Betting Sites

Michigan legalized online sports betting at the end of 2019 to help join the growth of legal sports betting sites across the USA. This will allowed sports betting, casino gambling and DFS to be added to the already legal Horse Racing online with poker also becoming legal.  With a number of Sportsbooks operators live now, many Michigans have been taking advantage of the Michigan sportsbook promos

Land based, the state has three casinos, a racetrack and more than 20 tribal casinos. The new rules allow each license holder to add land based sports betting in each casino, an online casino each and an online sports betting site each. Each recognised tribe will also be able to become licensed along with the three Detroit casinos which brings the total to 15 license holders.

If you are looking for information on online gambling at casinos in Michigan, we have a separate list of Michigan Casino Sites

How Many Sites Will there Be?

15 is the maximum number of sports betting sites that will be able to accept wagers legally in Michigan under current rules.

Commercial casinos and class 3 tribal casinos may each apply for a sports betting license and then each license holder may run one online sports betting site or mobile app. There are 12 federally recognized tribes in Michigan and three commercial casinos, giving us the 15 license holders.

Why use a Legal Sports Betting Operator?

There have been, and still will be offshore operators making online gambling available to Michiganders. The beauty of the legalization of sports betting both off and online in the state is that your deposited funds and winnings now have a level of security and support, with the sportsbooks working under strict legislative measures.

Unlike offshore operators, they will not be able to disappear without a trace, and with your money, without having to answer to the state. You may have used an offshore sportsbook online for many years already, but Michigan is now offering you the opportunity to continue betting on sport online in Michigan but with a better level of security and safety of your money.

  • Which Online Sportsbooks are Available?

The first sports betting sites look likely to be run by the bigger brands we have seen launch in other states like New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Indiana. William Hill, FoxBet, BetMGM, and Pointsbet are all set to be available

Pointsbet has an agreement to launch mobile betting under the Northern Waters license. William Hill and Foxbet will launch mobile apps as a result of tribal agreements whilst BetMGM has entered through the MGM Grand Detroit.

Whilst there are the three commercial casinos in Detriot that will be able to run sportsbooks both on and offline as well as the casino online, there are a further 12 recognized tribal casinos that will be able to partner with an online operator.

Detroit is going to get its fair share of taxes that's for sure!

    • 8.40% on commercial land-based and tribal sportsbooks
    • 9.65% on commercial online sportsbooks

With just under a 9% tax rate on gross revenue, the larger share of that is going to Detroit directly while the remainder goes to the state as a whole. In addition, the three casinos in Detroit will be paying an additional 1.25% to the city!!

  • Online Sportsbook Banking Options

In recent times it has been decreed within sports betting legislation that the in person registration requirement has been dropped, and you can register for a new account online using mobile betting apps. This also includes all account management including deposits and withdrawals being made online too.

Great news and real help in being able to fully manage your online sportsbook account at your own convenience with remote registration.

The even better news is there are a whole host of ways to make deposits and withdrawals to your sports betting accounts with legal sportsbooks. Take a look at these banking options

    Credit & Debit Cards

Whilst credit cards are widely accepted we would advise using credit to fund your online gambling, especially if you do not have the funds to make a full repayment within the month. Betting with money you do not have is worse than betting with money you can not afford. Please see our guide to responsible gambling for more information.

Debit cards are a far better option, funds are available instantly in most cases. Withdrawals will often be processed by the sportsbook within 24 hours using this method, but depending on your bank, it could take up to 5 working days to receive your funds back to your physical account.

For quicker withdrawal methods, read on.

Double check if you want to make multiple transactions this way, as fees can be introduced if this method is abused.

    Prepaid Cards

Quite often sportsbooks and casinos offer their own branded pre paid cards. You can load them up and make deposits and withdrawals with them quickly and be able to access the cash from ATMS. A superb addition to online money management that works seamlessly with most betting sites in Iowa

    ACH Wire Transfer

Using a bank transfer can be a convenient way of funding your betting account. Do check for fees however, which may vary by bank, and transactions can sometimes take time to clear on both deposits and withdrawals

If you are close to the casino partnered with your online sportsbook you can make deposits directly into your account using cash at the cash cage in the casino. Likewise you be able to withdraw in the same manner.

    Minimum Deposit & Maximum Withdrawals

You'll find all sportsbooks will have a minimum deposit requirement, but they are in the main around $10 so not prohibitive.

Also, be aware of when using deposit methods if any negate the qualification of welcome bonuses. Also, check Wagering requirements of any offer.

Being able to make deposits online also negates the necessity of a visit to a physical sportsbook to make a cash deposit.
