Full William Hill Bookmaker Review

There’s no debating that William Hill is one of the best bookmakers in the UK. Being in the top 10 for so many categories is testament to that, and there’s only one bookie in the country that makes more of these lists than Hills.

You can tell from the sports that William Hill is particularly good at – greyhounds, horse racing, darts, snooker etc. – that there is an old school, heritage feel about the brand. They’ve been doing this a long time and doing it well, while being to stay relevant and add new features to their product that perform better than other bookies (think newer additions like cash out and bet builder).

The website could be a bit cleaner – there’s definitely a lot to take in and it can all feel a bit cluttered and difficult to navigate at times. Once you’re used to it and using it regularly you can get past this, however.

My First Impressions

This William Hill review was conducted across the desktop and mobile versions of the site, as well as on their app, so will reflect all three platforms. William Hill has been one of the most recognisable bookmakers on the UK high street for nearly 100 years, and remains a big player in the space with its online offering. At OLBG, we conduct data on all UK bookmakers, reviewing how good they are at hundreds of different aspects of gambling. As it stands, William Hill makes our top 10 in the country for 10 different categories. Live Betting

Live in-play betting is available on William Hill, just look for the in-play section of their main menu. The offering is great. There’s some football, tennis and cricket, plus handball and esports. Look a little closer and you’ll find beach volleyball, esports and table tennis. They’ve got most things covered.

Live Streaming

With live betting comes live streaming and William Hill does this through its William Hill TV, broadcasting from 24 different racecourses around the country. Their service can be watched by all William Hill customers, who just need to log into their account before following the steps below which differ depending on the device in use.

In addition to this, you can live stream selected basketball, football, cricket and tennis matches.

Betting Odds

William Hill App is competitive with betting odds. The percentage figure you see is how often you would be getting the best odds for a particular sport if you used only the William Hill betting app.

EG, if you see William Hill in 2nd place for a sport, and a percentage of 48% - it means that there is one other bookmaker who is best priced more often, but even if you stuck with William Hill you would get the best odds 48% of the time. Also, remember that it is always worth checking alternative betting options, including best spread betting sites and betting exchange sites, depending on who you are as a bettor.

Betting App or Mobile Site 

The William Hill app does an excellent job in covering all your betting requirements when on the go. As well as the William Hill sportsbook, there is gaming, slots, tables and casino options available, once you have initially downloaded the William Hill app.

The A-Z sports tab was in the right place and the black coloured headers stood out and separated the different sections of the app. The menu was incredibly user-friendly, no whistles or bells, just a list of sports, exactly what you want. The William Hill app didn’t all meld into one, which made finding what you were after simple.

The William Hill app was one of the best apps we tested in the navigation category, in other words everything I was looking for on the William Hill app I found easily. When you are packed in like sardines on a commuter train, or looking to place a bet whilst in the queue for coffee, placing a bet via an app needs to be simple.

The William Hill app could not be faulted for ease of use. Take a look at the carousel of screenshots below, we think you will agree that it looks intuitive, even for novice bettors we expect there would be no issues. The William Hill quick bet facility is a boon, when you select a price on an event a quick slip instantly opens, meaning you can get on in seconds. ⚽ Football Betting

When it comes to football betting sites in the UK, William Hill have been around for longer than pretty much anyone else on the high street, and their experience shows because the product that put out is excellent. They offer Odds Boosts and Early Pay Outs, as well as decent stats to go along with their in-play betting, but their real strength is the amount of different leagues and competitions that they cover, it’s as good as any out there and they have a great welcome offer.

Bet Builder 

The William Hill bet builder is really good. William Hill calls it “Build #YourOdds” as the chance to “create your own acca”. There are heaps of different markets, and plenty of ways that you can tailor your bet to you. You can delve into this in more detail on our 10 best bet builder sites.

Bonuses

You can obviously use the welcome offer to place football bets, but on top of that there were a couple of football-specific offers that I could find in addition to the bet boosts.

William Hill has daily acca best boosts and daily Build #YourOdds boosts, meaning that most, if not all, days you bet you’ll find ways of upping your odds. There is also a free to play game – correctly predict five questions on a selected match and you’ll get £20 in free bets.

Cash Out

Cash Out is, of course, available at William Hill, and it’s actually one of the best in the country when it comes to this feature. They offer Cash Out (Cash In My Bet) and Partial Cash Out (Partial Cash In My Bet) options for single and multiple bets. Cash Out allows you to secure a profit or minimise losses before settling, while Partial Cash Out lets you cash in part of your bet. Look for the symbols under "Open Bets".

🏇 Horse Racing

Within the racing section you’ll see racecards for upcoming meets, all the races which have extra places offered, as well as the ability to build your own racecard.

William Hill offers Best Odds Guaranteed to its customers. You can get BOG after 10am on race day of all UK and Irish races, including in multiples, and with a maximum restriction set at £2,500.

When you land on an American football section, you want to see game lines, with spread, total and moneyline markets right there. Thankfully, you get that at William Hill. Some UK bookmakers try to Anglicise US sports, but removing the spread is completely the wrong thing to do as it’s the main thing punters look for from the off, so it’s great to see William Hill avoiding this common mistake.

🏀 Basketball Betting

The great news is that you can watch live NBA games through William Hill TV, something that puts it way ahead of most UK bookmakers. 

In addition to that, that there are events for the top leagues around the world, including the EuroLeague, Greece, Italy, and Australia. Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]

Overall the navigation is a bit cluttered. There’s a lot of information crammed into each page which may be a little disorientating for some, but I never found it hard to find anything and, to be honest, kept seeing little alerts or icons telling me about various things (if there is cash out, price boosts, live streaming etc) that normally you have to hunt around for. You definitely get the sense that people who bet regularly are involved in designing the product.

Placing a bet

This section should only really highlight if there are issues, as the process is almost identical on every site. 

Placing a bet on William Hill is straightforward with the betslip instantly popping up on the side of your screen on the desktop site. This adds your selection straight into your slip with the speed of placing the bet after clicking it less than a second.

The app is fairly similar to the desktop site with the betslip going at the bottom of your screen as soon as you pick your selection on there. In-play betting will always be slower to place a bet but from the example bets that we did we found that the prices stayed the same for the few seconds it took for the bet to process in-play.

Managing your account

An integral part of any betting site is the account management side of things with the ease of access to various account details always important. Plenty of options are available in the My Account section of William Hill including Bet History, Banking History and overall transactions.
