Boxing promoter Dmitriy Salita talks up replacement for Dillian Whyte to fight Anthony Joshua
Following the cancellation of Anthony Joshua v Dillian Whyte this weekend, all talk is around who will replace Whyte to keep Joshua fighting rather than a full axing of the card.
Promoter Dmitriy Salita has spoke up about potential opponents for Joshua including Jarrell Miller who was previously set to fight Joshua back in June 2019.
Who should Anthony Joshua fight this Weekend?
Salita spoke up the fight saying, "Jarrell Miller versus Anthony Joshua is one of the only fights available at short notice that will do potentially more PPV buys than Dillian Whyte versus Joshua. These are prizefighters at the end of the day, and they must maximise every opportunity.
Salita has also spoke about Miller's previous drug test failure saying, "If you do the crime you have to serve the time. Jarrell has served the time and he has to have an opportunity to be a force in world boxing. Promoters saying he can’t fight because of his previous failures is unacceptable. If a commission like Nevada that suspended him gave him his license then he has to be given the opportunities that make the most sense for the fans."
Otto Wallin also mentioned as replacement
Dmitriy Salita also promotes Otto Wallin and that is also something that Salita says he has offered to Eddie Hearn for him to fight Joshua this weekend.
Wallin will be known by UK fans for his fight against Tyson Fury where he managed to give Fury one of the toughest tests of his career.
Salita spoke about the potential Wallin bout and said, "I've also reached out to Eddie Hearn about Otto Wallin replacing Dillian Whyte as the main event on Saturday night. Will they go for a top level southpaw with one week's notice?
That's the big question, but I know Joshua enjoys challenging himself. He tried to outbox the master boxer Usyk, that's the kind of mentality he has, he wants to and likes to push himself, so I'm calling on Joshua to show us that competitive streak, and also to prove to the world that top quality southpaws are not your kryptonite by accepting Wallin's challenge."
Replacement needed at some point in next 48 hours
For the Anthony Joshua card to still take place this weekend, a replacement is needed to replace Dillian Whyte quickly with reports saying Joshua still plans to fight on Saturday.
The decision on who Whyte's replacement will be should happen at some point on Monday with an announcement expected in the next 48 hours.
What is clear is that Dmitriy Salita is doing all he can to offer his fighters as a replacement for Whyte for Saturday's main event.
