Full BetGrouse Bookmaker Review

A solid, if not spectacular offering from BetGrouse all round. It’s obvious that this is a new product, and I definitely get the feeling that improvements are on their way. There are a few little bits (icons that don’t load, or events that exist, but need more markets) that feel like they are about to be added or improved, and I’d be intrigued on coming back in six or 12 months time to see if that has played out.

To make great waves in the market BetGrouse needs to have longer odds, at least in some markets, even if it isn’t most, and up the promotions. We’ve reviewed a few new bookies who don’t have great odds, but tonnes of promotions and odds boosts, or next to no promotions but amazing odds, whereas here there isn’t either.

On the plus side, there are so many sports here to bet on, and leagues within sports (amazing event range in basketball and ice hockey) that really stand out as strengths.

BetGrouse

There are some sports here I don’t think I can bet anywhere else – stock car racing, for example.

Advantages and Disadvantages

All explained in greater detail in this review, these pros and cons allow users to scan and understand where the strengths lie quickly.

Pros

  • Nice website design

  • Excellent basketball offering

  • Huge range of sports, and great event coverage within those sports

Cons

  • Needs more promotions

  • Odds could be longer

First Impression of BetGrouse

Luke Bradshaw Lee

My First Impressions

The early indications are good. There’s a lot going on the homepage, but everything looks how you want it. A quick scan across the page, plus navigating to a few different sections is an easy process, all moving along quite sleekly. A few things I noticed from the off. There’s a lot of markets displayed per event just on the homepage (I hope that continues within), esports are split into individual games rather than one esports tab on the menu (maybe it’s a focus of theirs?) and the range in sports offered looks pretty huge (winter sports and floorball included).

Live Betting

Here in the UK on a weekday morning there should be some good in-play betting options, and this doesn’t disappoint.

There’s the usual selection of football, basketball, tennis and the like, but also some smaller betting events such as Counter Strike (esports) and volleyball. While there can’t be a huge appetite for these markets, it’s great to see smaller bases covered.

The section is easy to find, right next to the main sports menu, and it brings up plenty of in-paly betting options. The football games in particular have plenty of markets and there is a small spattering of stats. Some markets have a stats icon that doesn’t load anything which suggests it’s something that’ll be implemented soon.

Live Streaming

As it stands BetGrouse doesn’t offer any live streaming.

Betting Odds

After checking some other bookmakers at the same time, plus a few comparison sites, it appears that the odds offered by BetGrouse are fairly standard. There are some longer odds, and some less competitive, depending on what sports and markets you’re looking at. The nicher sports mean that there are odds that you’ll get that simply don’t exist elsewhere.

Also, remember that it is always worth checking alternative betting options, including best spread betting sites and betting exchange sites, depending on who you are as a bettor.

BetGrouse Betting App or Mobile Site

As mentioned, there is no BetGrouse app. The mobile version of the site is probably better than the desktop to be honest. I prefer the in-play tab being in the menu below, leaving the main account menu at the top and the “More” menu in the bottom-right of the mobile view is really good and something I can’t see on the desktop version.

It’s genuinely quite impressive how so much on one page all feels quite compact and relatively clean.

Compare to the best betting apps in the country.

⚽ Football Betting

BetGrouse’s football section is decent. All the major events are covered, with plenty of markets in each. As mentioned above, the odds are fine, and finding your way through their football sections goes as it should.

You can see in the chart below, in greater detail, why certain bookies rank among the top for football betting sites, and what BetGrouse is up against.

Bet Builder

All the games that I selected had the bet builder feature available to them, and you only need two or more selections to use it. Compared to some bookies there aren’t quite as many markets, but there’s still a decent amount, including player markets.

Bonuses

Aside from the welcome offer I can’t see any other bonuses, football or otherwise. There are some casino promotions, however.

Cash Out

Cash Out is available at BetGrouse. It’s a feature that is now par for the course for bookmakers, so it’s reassuring to see it here. Cash Out is offered, but there is no partial cash out option unfortunately.

🏇 Horse Racing

The horse racing section at BetGrouse is fine. There are markets for all UK and Ireland races with fairly standard odds across the board, but then it stops and there are absolutely no odds for any international racing. Scanning other sportsbooks sat the same time pulled up races today in Japan, the US, Australia, France, South Africa and a couple more, but none of these were on BetGrouse.

There are also no horse racing promotions and betGRouse doesn’t offer Best Odds Guaranteed.

🇺🇸 US Sports Betting

A full range of American Sports is available. At the time of writing, only the NHL season isn’t up and running, with the other major leagues in full swing. Beyond that, and maybe somewhat surprisingly given its lack of international racing coverage, there are lots of international markets for these sports, particularly for basketball.

🏈 American Football Betting

I love how many  markets are displayed on the main American football section. Obviously there is the NFL, but seeing markets for the winner of the Sun Belt Conference, as well as some MAC outrights,  in college football shows that they should have plenty covered.

Unfortunately, it actually gets a bit messy when I look for the spread in tonight’s NFL prime time game. That should be the first thing you see for a fixture, and although they have the moneyline and total shown, even when you click into the game itself and select “spread” it shows you all spread options and not the actual game line. There’s actually a load of markets to bet on, with bet builder available, but it does all start feeling a bit messy and confused.

It’s worth checking out our best NFL betting sites to see how BetGrouse compares overall.

🏀 Basketball Betting

There is a massive array of leagues on offer at BetGrouse. Of course there is the NBA, and some international games, also. But on top of that, the sheer list of domestic leagues covered around the world is very impressive. We’re talking big ones like Greece, Spain, Italy and Australia, but also El Salvador, Slovenia, Japan and more. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more domestic basketball leagues covered on any other sportsbook.

Keep tabs on the top basketball betting sites though, to see if they make it onto our list.

⚾ Baseball Betting

BetGrouse's baseball section is fine. Across its US sports markets it's the same story in a lack of player bets. The markets that they do have for games are decent aside from that, but nothing to write home about, but weirdly, given how many basketball leagues are covered, there’s only US and Japanese baseball here.

🏒 Ice Hockey Betting

Like the basketball offering, as well as the biggest league in the sport, the NHL, there are a huge number of other leagues around the globe. You can bet on games in Switzerland, Sweden, England, the Czech Republic and more. There are good outright future markets for NHL betting, and the markets within games are loaded.

🎯 Darts Betting

Matthew Edgar

Matthew Edgar

Darts editor and wdf professional

In terms of darts betting sites in the UK, BetGrouse is solid. There are markets for the PDC World Championships, but only outrights. That aside, there markets for the Modus Super Series and Players Championship. I’d like to see more markets within each game, however.

Snooker Betting

Steve Madgwick

Steve Madgwick

Editor-in-chief

I’m always on the lookout for great snooker betting sites. At the time of writing there are markets just for the World Championships, Masters and UK Championship, and each of these are just outrights. As with some of the other sports, it’s clear that BetGrouse only covers the major events in a lot of sports. I’d hope that they increase the amount of markets for the tournaments that they do cover when it gets closer to the time, but it’s all pretty limited at the moment.

🏉 Rugby Betting (Union & League)

Event coverage is pretty good, with domestic games in England, Wales, France and New Zealand all featured, as well as some odds on next year’s Six Nations and European Rugby Championship. Likewise, with rugby league there is a small spattering of matches, but I’d definitely want more market options for said games.

There does need to be more markets per match, but the odds that they do have are very good when compared to our best Rugby betting sites.

🏏 Cricket Betting

James Banting

James Banting

Tipster competition assistant

It would have been nice to see some sort of promotion going on given that the Cricket World Cup is underway, but unfortunately there is nothing here along those lines. The event coverage is okay, with domestic competitions in India, Australia and the UAE all there, as well as outrights for future World Cups and the Ashes, also. Betway currently tops our Best Cricket betting site right now, with huge market depth, great odds and lots of promotions. BetGrouse actually matches them odds-wise, so hopefully they can up their market depth and they’ll be in with a shout of being one of the best around.

We list the 10 best cricket betting sites here.

🎾 Tennis Betting

By James Banting - The tennis betting at BetGrouse is pretty good. There are all the majors listed for next year, with outrights offered on all, and for upcoming matches there is a decent selection of ATP matches, as well as Challenger Series matches across the world. It also goes down to ITF level, which is great to see.

The odds are decent. Scanning the ATP matches over the next couple of days I can definitely get more value here than most bookies. If they could add in more markets then they’d definitely be closer to getting into the top 10 tennis betting sites on OLBG.

🏌️ Golf Betting

By James Banting - I’d like to see greater event coverage to be honest. Aside from the Ryder Cup and the four Majors, all of which are being played next year, there aren’t any other tournaments listed. There are definitely some LIV Golf Events that I’d expect to see, and a number of smaller events – Andalucia Masters, BMW Ladies Championship, plus a few more. That said, the odds are better than most so I’ll keep BetGrouse in mind when the majors roll around.

🏎️ Motorsports Betting

Andy Powell

Andy Powell

Content editor

Unfortunately, there is only Formula 1 or MotoGP listed at BetGrouse. That means no Speedway, Superbikes, or Nascar. I’d like to see more market depth for the Grand Prix – they only have winner, even for this week’s event, which is pretty disappointing to be honest.

Compare to the best motorsport betting sites.

🥊 Boxing Betting

Frank Monkhouse

Frank Monkhouse

Boxing editor

There are a lot of upcoming bouts, but definitely not as many as some other bookmakers, so some people may have to look elsewhere. On top of that, there aren’t that many markets, particularly on the smaller fights, although these may increase when closer to the time. Most of the bouts listed just have winner as a market and I’d definitely like to see more.

Other Sports Betting

Whilst these sports might sound very niche, there is a massive market for fans, and millions of them in the UK, so good coverage of niche sports and events is key to be reviewed on OLBG.

Account Opening Process

This couldn’t be easier. Three steps clearly signposted, and only having to input the usual information makes this a very straightforward process. When I signed up I did so using the app.

  1. Enter your email address and choose a password. Click “Sign Up” when you are ready.

  2. Create a passcode and choose whether you want to use Face ID.

  3. Verify your account using a personal ID. This can be a driving licence or something else

  4. Unlock the welcome offer.

Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]

I definitely preferred the app when it comes to user experience. In fact, it wasn’t long before I was exclusively using it.

The main reason I have already mentioned. I have to say that one issue kept popping up for me on the desktop, which was why I made the permanent change. Once selecting a game or match, within a league, it’s quite difficult to get back to the league overview, without completing leaving the sport and landing on the homepage again. It did get quite frustrating.

That aside, it’s a pretty good user experience, and moving between markets in an event is very straightforward.

Placing a bet

This section should only really highlight if there are issues, as the process is almost identical on every site. Within a few minutes of signing up to BetGrouse I placed a couple of bets on different sports, one of which took advantage of the welcome offer, and I used their bet builder feature, which was very indeed.

Managing your account

As mentioned above, the design really makes this tick. On the desktop version, it’s stuff left and right of screen (menu and search to the left, account and bets to the right). On the app, it’s at the bottom, with search, account and bets at the top, with a main nav bar at the bottom that can get you to different sports, in-play options and casino (plus return to the home page).

Responsible Gambling Features

You can set your deposit limit while you’re signing up; long before you’ve got close to actually making a bet.

There is also a Settings tab at the bottom of the page, no matter what page you’re on, that allows you to make changes to limits, as well as odds formats, or odds change preferences/notifications.

There are the following measures within its functionality:

  • Loss Limit

  • Session Limit

  • Wagering Limits

  • Reality Check

  • Time-Out

  • Self-Exclusion

  • Support Groups & Organisations

All are explained in further detail on their safer gambling page. As well as this, on the same page they list links to the likes of the National Gambling Helpline, Be Gamble Aware and the National Gambling Treatment Service.
