Full Gentleman Jim Bookmaker Review

Gentleman Jim, like any relatively new bookmaker, will always struggle to stand out against some of the industry’s big players. Gentleman Jim aims to do this through its focus on horse racing greyhounds, aligning to old school, British gambling values, despite being new to the market.

Overall, I think they achieve this somewhat. I think their racing offering is good, but their greyhound is a bit above average. Generally the odds are very good, and for some of the longer range stuff punters will get more value here than most other places.

This makes up for the fact that some sports simply aren’t there, like volleyball or, more surprisingly, esports. That seems like a miss. Overally, it’s a solid effort however, but there’s definitely improvements that could be made. It’s worth noting, however, that the virtual sports offering is very good.

Gentleman Jim Review Summary

If horses are your thing, Gentleman Jim is a very good option, and there is other stuff here for you – casino and virtual sports, in particular. In short, they’re a solid option all round with some nice highlights thrown in.

Advantages and Disadvantages

All explained in greater detail in this review, these pros and cons allow users to scan and understand where the strengths lie quickly.

Pros

  • Great customer service

  • Excellent app and website design

  • Focus on horse racing and greyhounds

Cons

  • No esports available

  • Limited options in terms of payment methods

Who are Gentleman Jim?

Gentleman Jim comes from Lovell Brothers Ltd, but the site's structure is a Playbook one. That means that in terms of design it resembles the likes of PlanetSport Bet, BetZone, DragonBet, plus a few more, but it isn't actually a Playbook product at all. Bettors who have used their sites will be very familiar with the design and layout, which is almost identical, branding aside. Gentleman Jim was launched, focusing on racing and greyhounds.

First Impression of Gentleman Jim

My First Impressions

In this Gentleman Jim review, I registered online through their desktop, but used their mobile version, as well as downloading their app. The direction at Gentleman Jim is clear. From the greens and mustard yellows, sketch-style illustrations, check patterns and flat caps, this is a site aimed with classic on course betting in mind. Fans of racing and greyhounds will feel right at home and, although there is casino and virtual sports, as well as the usual selection of sports, the homepage especially keeps racing front and centre.

Gentleman Jim Live Betting

In the UK, during the week, you’d expect to still find some in-play options, particularly from events around the world. And that’s the case here, with football, tennis and basketball.

A look around some other sportsbooks at the same time suggests that there isn’t quite the same amount of markets that others may have, but there’s still a good offering nonetheless.

Also, it’s worth pointing out that there are more in-play markets than you first think. The main in-play section lists the major events, but if you can’t see what you’re after (tennis, in this instance) and navigate there through the A-Z Sports menu down the left-hand side, you do get to some in-play markets.

Gentleman Jim Live Streaming

As it stands Gentleman Jim offers live streaming on horse racing and greyhounds only. This is across desktop, mobile and their app and covers all UK and Irish races and events. It’s definitely worth pointing out that the quality of the stream that I watched was really good.

Gentleman Jim Betting Odds

A look through comparison sites, OddsChecker, and then some deeper dives across bookmakers not listed there, suggests that the odds offered at Gentleman Jim are very good. We checked football, basketball and tennis (in-play and pre-match). They’re competitive, and as a punter you’d be happy going with them, but there’s nothing that is market-leading and absolutely grabs you. As expected, the racing and greyhound odds are particularly good.

Also, remember that it is always worth checking alternative betting options, including best spread betting sites and betting exchange sites, depending on who you are as a bettor.

Gentleman Jim Betting App or Mobile Site

This Gentleman Jim review is undertaken across the app, as much as the desktop version. The app is very good, indeed. As a regular bettor, it feels and behaves exactly how you want it to – there are no immediate “why’s it doing that?” or “where do I find that bit?” moments. The app is very similar to the desktop version, with both behaving almost identically. It’s hard to judge for total novices, but I’d be very surprised if a betting newcomer couldn’t navigate easily through the options and find what they are after. Overall, it’s a real highlight of the product that they offer. See how it compares to the best betting apps in the UK.

Gentleman Jim Football Betting

Divided up clearly into sensible sections (UK, European Elite, Rest of Europe, Rest of World etc.), with different markets to navigate available underneath, bettors can find the markets that they’re after swiftly and with little fuss. This doesn’t change across in-play and overall, this looks like an experienced team has put the package together.

You can see in the chart below, in greater detail, why certain bookies rank among the top for football betting sites, and what Gentleman Jim is up against.

Bet Builder

All games with bet builder available have a small “B” logo displayed underneath, and this can be seen across most games. It’s once you start getting into non-league, or Rest of the World games that this begins to disappear. There’s an absolute load of markets within the feature which is great to see, although one criticism is that they’re not grouped, so it may take a little longer to find “player markets” for example.

Bonuses

There’s nothing that I can find in the way of promotions. There isn’t a welcome offer, or anything for signed up existing members, which is quite disappointing to see.

Cash Out

Cash Out is available at Gentleman Jim (although Partial Cash Out isn’t). It’s a feature that has become an absolute staple of bookmakers, and it’s great to see that here it’s no different. The cash out offered on one of the bets I placed wasn’t amazing, but in truth, that’s par for the course with the feature and it’s very rare to get amazing cash out offers, even at the best of times.

Gentleman Jim Horse Racing

The horse racing section at Gentleman Jim is very good, and definitely a real highlight. As expected, “Next Off” is front and centre, but it’s easy to scroll across and find all the meets for the day. This goes across the globe, too, not just UK and Irish races, as there is a huge list of global meets, too. These include Woodbine, Deauville, Sunshine Coast and Los Alamitos.

Below is an A-Z, with Quick Picks, Build a Racecard and Ante Post options all available. The odds are very good and competitive, especially for some of the longer shots.

This bookie offers daily racing specials, which is good to see, although there isn’t a load of racing offers/bonuses and, unfortunately, Gentleman Jim doesn’t have Best Odds Guaranteed

Gentleman Jim US Sports Betting

A full range of American Sports is available. Even though the MLB isn’t in season, it’s good to see their outright markets and futures there, alongside global leagues (South Korean and Japanese baseball, for example).

American Football Betting

UK bookmakers sometimes anglicise American sports in an attempt to make them seemingly more attractive to UK users, and it never works. One example is just posting the moneyline odds for games on the main page. Gentleman Jim doesn’t do this, which is great to see.

Moneyline is obviously there, but it sits alongside the spread and totals, as it should. You want the three main markets listed from the off. Game markets look good overall, but only for teams. There is a distinct lack of player props, and that goes for outrights also. Case in point, I couldn’t find odds for the Heisman Trophy, or any DPOY, or MVP odds, all of which is a glaring miss.

It’s worth checking out our best NFL betting sites to see how Gentleman Jim compares overall.

Basketball Betting

As well as the NBA, Gentleman Jim covers a wide range of EuroLeague and domestic world competitions, which is great to see. At the time of writing there are markets for Israel, Finland, China, the Philippines and Germany, among others. The NBA season is in full swing, with plenty of futures and outrights regarding division winners, plus a good selection of markets in each match-up. As with American football, however, there are no player props or futures.

Keep tabs on the top basketball betting sites though, to see if they make it onto our list.

Baseball Betting

Gentleman Jim’s baseball section is adequate. Across its US sports markets it's the same story in a lack of player bets. There’s nothing for Player Bases, Hits, Walks Issued, Strikeouts etc or any player prop market which is frustrating. The markets that they do have for games is decent aside from that, but nothing to write home about.

Ice Hockey Betting

The NHL takes up the majority of the real estate here, as expected. But there is also some Finnish, British and German fixtures included. One nice touch, and something I’ve noticed across a few sports (definitely American football and basketball) is either club logos or, even more useful in in-play betting on sports you may not know tons about, is teams’ uniforms next to their names. It’s a lovely little detail.

Gentleman Jim Greyhound Betting

You can live stream greyhound racing on Gentleman Jim (alongside horse racing). They have a full offering of UK and Irish races, and of the 15 different meets I saw, 14 of them featured live streaming (all clearly visible with a green play icon on each). You can sort through quick picks, build a racecard or go through their ante post markets.

One nice touch, from the homepage, is the ability to switch back and forth between racing and greyhounds, and then back again using the button just under the “NEXT OFF” part of the menu.

Gentleman Jim Darts Betting

In terms of darts betting sites in the UK, Gentleman Jim is a decent option. There are markets for the European Tour, and Modus Series, with outrights on the PDC World Championships, and plenty of markets within. There are lots of options in-play, with odds changing swiftly. It’s good to know that the site and its odds are properly reflecting the action going on in what is a European Tour match.

Gentleman Jim Snooker Betting

By Steve Madgwick - I am always on the lookout for great snooker betting sites. At the time of writing there are markets for a few different tournaments, including the World Championships, the Masters and Scottish Open. On top of that, the odds look pretty good, and that goes for outrights on next year’s World Championships, as well as upcoming matches in some smaller tournaments.

Although the odds are generally good across the board, there is a slight lack of markets. For one selected match Gentleman Jim has result, handicap markets, total frames and correct score. There isn’t anything for centuries, highest breaks, race to (frames) or any more novelty bets like odd/even total frames etc. which means that there are a fair few other sites who can offer more.

Gentleman Jim Rugby Betting (Union & League)

By Luke Bradshaw Lee - Of course there are Six Nations outrights, alongside the Gallagher Premiership, Champions Cup, URC and Super Rugby, but there’s no French or Japanese domestic competition. There is also a decent selection of rugby league competitions covered, also, with Super League and NRL featuring prominently.

This makes up for the fact that odds aren’t brilliant. Good enough to bet generally, but not the longest that you’ll find. There does need to be more markets per match, but the odds that they do have are good when compared to our best Rugby betting sites.

Gentleman Jim Cricket Betting

By James Banting - In terms of the cricket on offer and Gentleman Jim there is some good and some bad. Of the markets that they do have the odds are pretty good, definitely enough to keep me interested. The issue is that there aren’t as many markets as I would really like to see. There are some outrights on the Pakistan Super LEague, Women’s IPL, plus some markets for ODIs and Caribbean Twenty20. Betway currently tops our Best Cricket betting site right now, with huge market depth, great odds and lots of promotions, so perhaps Gentleman Jim can follow their lead and up their offering.

Gentleman Jim Tennis Betting

By James Banting - Overall, I like the tennis betting at Gentleman Jim. Across the site it’s definitely one of the better sports in terms of in-play coverage, and includes a live tracker with match stats once you’ve clicked through to the match’s markets. The odds are good, especially the in-play ones.

There could be more events offered, and more market depth, but based on what is there it’s definitely above average. There aren’t any tennis promotions, or even bet boosts, so that’s definitely something that would raise them in my eyes. If they could add in more markets, and some tennis-specific promotions, they’d definitely be closer to getting into the top 10 tennis betting sites on OLBG.

Gentleman Jim Golf Betting

By James Banting - Current events look great, with smaller competitions listed among odds for the majors, Ryder and Solheim Cups and LIV tournaments. I really like the leaderboard for in-play events, with play by play info displayed that is better than most. On top of that, you can select specific holes, see their layout, and how the current players on that hole are going round. Generally, it’s all pretty excellent, and I’ll be coming back.

Gentleman Jim Motorsports Betting

By Andy Powell - Motorsports bettors will be happy here as long as it's Formula One that they want to bet on, because that’s the only motorsport featured here. There’s a good selection of markets for the upcoming F1 grand prix takes centre stage, understandably as we’re still in the middle of the season. But there’s nothing in the way of Speedway, Superbikes, Supercars or NASCAR.

Gentleman Jim Boxing Betting

By Frank Monkhouse, former professional boxer - There’s plenty of boxing matches to get stuck into here, and markets look dependent on timings. Those this weekend and over the next few weeks have a decent offering, whereas the further away they get the less markets on offer. That’s understandable, and I wouldn’t expect to find round by round and the like for fights that are months away. Overall, I like what Gentleman Jim is doing, even if there is a little bit of room for improvement.

Gentleman Jim Other Sports Betting

Whilst these sports might sound very niche, there is a massive market for fans, and millions of them in the UK, so good coverage of niche sports and events is key to be reviewed on OLBG.

Other Sports at Gentleman Jim 🌍🏀🏐🚴🎮

Gentleman Jim offers diverse betting options: handball 🏆, volleyball 🏐, cycling 🚴, and Aussie rules 🏉. Explore global matches, detailed stats, and infinite markets.

Gentleman Jim offers extensive betting options for Handball, volleyball, cycling, AFL betting, and esports. Handball includes global competitions; volleyball, covers European Championships and various tournaments; cycling features future tours and current races; AFL betting has comprehensive stats.

Political Betting

Gentleman Jim has no political betting markets at the time of this review.

Entertainment and Specials

By Jake Ashton - There is a small TV & Specials section at Gentleman Jim, but it’s not amazing if I’m being honest. There are a few markets – BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Dancing On Ice, the Eurovision Song Contest and the Oscar.. Really, I’d like to see more events covered, or even some more markets in the existing events, maybe even some novelty bets, but generally this is a solid effort.

Casino

Gentleman Jim does have casino. Despite the name of the brand, it's incredibly easy to find their casino offering from their sportsbook, with banners across the top. They also have some bonuses and offers that lead to casino spins should you win sportsbook bets. Check our Casino Sites page for dedicated new online casinos and slot sites.

Gentleman Jim Account Opening Process

A reassuringly easy process. At the top-right of the screen Gentleman Jim has their “Sign Up” button. Bettors just need to select this and follow the simple steps as guided through. You’ll be asked for the usual information – name, date of birth, address etc – and once complete be sent a verification email. Clicking this from your inbox will redirect you to the site, and then you’re free to get betting.

Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]

The navigation, and the general app design is very good. You can look at it two ways: as a complete betting novice, or as an experienced bettor who has accounts elsewhere.

For the former, everything would feel intuitive. There’s a menu of sports down the left hand side, and offers down the right, with the main panel of markets front and centre. If you're struggling or lost at any point, there’s a search function in the top left of the screen that will allow you to immediately find where you’re going (or see that it's not there and stop your search).

For the experienced bettor, everything will feel familiar. There’s no attempt to jazz things up for the sake of being different – this is how you’d want it, and what you’ll be used to from a number of other sportsbooks.

Placing a bet

This section should only really highlight if there are issues, as the process is almost identical on every site. Within a few minutes of signing up to Gentleman Jim I placed a couple of bets on different sports, one of which took advantage of the welcome offer, and I used their bet builder feature, which was very indeed.

Managing your account

As mentioned above, the design really makes this tick. On the desktop version, it’s stuff left and right of screen (menu and search to the left, account and bets to the right). On the app, it’s top and bottom, with search, account and bets at the top, with a main nav bar at the bottom that can get you to different sports, in-play options and casino (plus return to the home page).

I haven’t experienced any issues logging in, or finding customer service options, either. Overall, it feels like Gentleman Jim has got this part nailed.

Responsible Gambling Features

You can set your deposit limit while you’re signing up; long before you’ve got close to actually making a bet.
