2025 Liverpool Hurdle Preview

The Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle is run during the Grand National meeting in April of each year at the Aintree racecourse.

The race is open to runners aged four or older competing over a trip of three miles and half a furlongs where thirteen hurdles are to be jumped.

Thistlecrack won the Stayers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2016 before coming to land this race.

Liverpool Hurdle Information:

To see which runners the OLBG racing tipsters are tipping throughout the card that includes this race, head over to the Aintree tips on the day of the race, do they agree with the runners on the trend shortlist or are they predicting other runners? We cover every race at the Aintree Grand National Meeting and below you can find links to all of the races for each of Thursday, Friday & Saturday.

How competitive is the Liverpool Hurdle market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2004 when the race had an over-round of 109%. The race in 2019 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 130%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Liverpool Hurdle, the over-round has been 117%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £117 which is bet.

Liverpool Hurdle Trends:

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? From the past 20 if you had followed the winner of the Liverpool Hurdle next time out then you would have backed a total of 9 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since to win at SP next time out, would have returned an LSP of -1.91. Whilst we wait for the 2025 Liverpool Hurdle remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

When looking over the past 20 renewals, a time of 5:58.20 was set by If The Cap Fits in 2019, which is the quickest time over that period, the runner was trained by Harry Fry and ridden by Sean Bowen. The slowest winning time was set in 2016 when Thistlecrack won in a time of 6:33.40, booked to ride was Tom Scudamore on this Colin Tizzard trained runner.

These are the top three quickest-run Liverpool Hurdle over the last 20 renewals:

  1. If The Cap Fits (5:58.20) in 2019
  2. Whisper (5:58.50) in 2015
  3. Sire Du Berlais (5:59.82) in 2023
What the expert says...
It is no surprise that the Stayer Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival is a perfect prep run for the Liverpool Hurdle given their similarities. Twelve of the last twenty renewals have been won by a Stayers Hurdle runner although only one of the last seven.
