George Russell 5/1 to win next year's Drivers Championship

George Russell has finally been confirmed to be driving for Mercedes next season, after months and months of speculation. Russell has previously been driving for Williams, who have a technical partnership with Mercedes, and he's been gunning for the second seat at the top team ever since he started in F1. Valteri Bottas' move to Alfa Romeo earlier this week opened up the door for Russell's announcement and he was confirmed to be driving for Mercedes next year on Tuesday morning. Bookmakers offering bets on next years F1 season have already reacted

Russell v Hamilton next year in an ultra competitive Mercedes team

George Russell will be coming up against one of, if not THE, greatest F1 drivers of all time in Lewis Hamilton. The fact that they will be teammates next season won't make it any less competitive, as we've seen before from Hamilton in his sparring with Nico Rosberg and Valterri Bottas over the last decade of Formula 1 racing. Betting sites are giving odds of 5/2 that George Russell outscores Hamilton in next season's Drivers Championship, meaning that they see a 28% chance of it happening.

Despite it being his first year at Mercedes next season, bookies give Russell a 5/2 shot of beating Hamilton in the Drivers Championship next year!

How many races will Russell win in F1 next year?

Russell will be expected to win races in his opening year at Mercedes, with the team never hiding the fact that they race with team orders throughout the season. This means that it may be possible throughout the year that they will give Russell wins for a tactical and points-wise decision. Starting at 4 races or more, the line for this market goes up to as many as 8 race wins, which would surely give Russell a massive chance of winning the Drivers Championship next year.

Races won next year Odds Probability
4 or more race wins 5/4 44%
5 or more race wins
4/1 20%
6 or more race wins 8/1 11.1%
7 or more race wins 22/1 4.3%
8 or more race wins 40/1 2.4%
