Lionel Messi won the Ballon d'Or last year after winning the World Cup
Last year's Ballon d'Or award was handed to Lionel Messi after he won the 2022 World Cup for Argentina in Qatar the winter prior to that.
Messi's win was a record-extending eighth time that he was crowned Ballon d'Or winner with the win coming in somewhat controversial fashion.
Many were backing Manchester City forward Erling Haaland to win the award after a treble-winning campaign saw him break goalscoring records in the Premier League.
Messi though eventually was crowned winner with a total of 462 points against Haaland's 357.
