2026 Epsom Dash Preview

Scheduled to take place in June of each year during the Derby Festival at the Epsom racecourse is the Epsom Dash. This is one of the fastest races on the British calendar, and runners aged three or older are allowed to compete in this race, which is over the minimum five-furlong trip.

With the vast majority of the race being downhill, the race is touted as one of the fastest in the world.

For sponsorship purposes, the 2026 renewal of the Epsom Dash will hold the title of 'Betfred Dash Handicap'.

Epsom Dash Information:

How competitive is the Epsom Dash market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2022, when the race had an over-round of 120%. The race in 2018 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 138%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Epsom Dash, the over-round has been 129%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £129 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Epsom Dash Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Epsom Dash Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the Epsom Dash Trend Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run Epsom Dash races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Stone Of Folca (53.69) in 2012
  2. Ornate (54.00) in 2019
  3. Tees Spirit (54.15) in 2022

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Epsom Dash next time out, then you would have backed a total of 2 winners. Backing all 20 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -15.17. Whilst we wait for the 2026 Epsom Dash, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2005 renewal when Fire Up The Band from David Nicholls under the guidance of Richard Hughes, won in a time of 56.05, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Stone Of Folca, trained by John Best and ridden by Luke Morris set the quickest time of 53.69 in the 2012 renewal.

What the expert says...
Only two of the last twenty winners of the Epsom Dash came into the race on the back of a win; those were Tanasoq (2018) and Tees Spirit (2022), which could indicate that those on the rise in the handicaps struggle.
