2026 Debenhams Handicap Preview

The finale on day one of the Epsom Derby Festival is this class two handicap. Since 2018, the race has been open to runners aged three or older; before that, it was restricted to three-year-olds only.

The race is run over a distance of seven furlongs at the Epsom racecourse in June of each year. Because of the changes to the age restrictions, please be aware of these when looking at the trends, as this can have a big impact on them.

How competitive is the Debenhams Handicap market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2016 when the race had an over-round of 114%. The race in 2007 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 130%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Debenhams Handicap, the over-round has been 122%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £122 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Debenhams Handicap Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Debenhams Handicap Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Debenhams Handicap races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Almargo (1:20.77) in 2014
  2. Cansili Star (1:20.90) in 2010
  3. Spanish Star (1:21.48) in 2023

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Debenhams Handicap next time out, then you would have backed a total of 2 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -9.00. Ahead of the 2026 Debenhams Handicap, why not head over to the racing predictions for tips on other races today?

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2016 renewal when Kings Pavilion from Mark Johnston under the guidance of Franny Norton, won in a time of 1:27.02, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Almargo, trained by Mark Johnston and ridden by Silvestre De Sousa set the quickest time of 1:20.77 in the 2014 renewal.

What the expert says...
The 2023 & 2024 winners both went on to run in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, Spanish Star finished 5th and Rhoscolyn finished 13th, and, in fact, none of the 15 winners (2010-24) managed to win next time out.
