2025 Irish Oaks Preview

The Irish Oaks is a Group 1 race open to three-year-old fillies that is run at the Curragh racecourse in July of each year. Established in 1895, the race is run over one mile and four furlongs around the right-handed course and is Ireland's equivalent to the Epsom Oaks.

Watch out for runners who perform well in this race and then head to York to run in the Yorkshire Oaks the following month. Snowfall (2021) was the last to do the double.

How competitive is the Irish Oaks market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2006 when the race had an over-round of 109%. The race in 2017 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 127%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Irish Oaks, the over-round has been 119%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £119 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2025 Irish Oaks Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Irish Oaks Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Irish Oaks races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Shawanda (2:27.10) in 2005
  2. Alexandrova (2:29.60) in 2006
  3. Covert Love (2:30.38) in 2015

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Irish Oaks next time out, then you would have backed a total of 9 winners. Backing all 19 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +3.59. Ahead of the 2025 Irish Oaks, why not head over to the racing predictions for tips on other races today?

Over the last 20 renewals, it was Shawanda, trained by A De Royer-Dupre and ridden by Christophe Soumillon, who set the fastest winning time in the Irish Oaks. That runner won the race in a time of 2:27.10 in 2005. At the other end of the scale, it was the combination of trainer Michael Bell and jockey Jamie Spencer with Sariska who set the slowest winning time; the race-winning time was 2:45.84 in the 2009 renewal.

What the expert says...
The Epsom Oaks is the obvious route to look at; that race has produced nine of the last twenty winners of this race, including the 2023 winner Savethelastdance, who, after finishing runner-up at Epsom, won this. Five of those nine winners did the double; the last to do so was Snowfall in 2021.
