2026 Acomb Stakes Preview

Run on the opening of the York Ebor Festival in August, the Acomb Stakes is a Group 3 flat race that is restricted to two-year-old runners only.

The race is run over seven furlongs, meaning the runners have to contend with a left-hand turn. Fillies get a 3lb allowance, whilst previous G1 or G2 winners have to carry a 5lb penalty, and previous G3 winners carry a 3lb penalty.

How competitive is the Acomb Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2023 when the race had an over-round of 109%. The race in 2011 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 121%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Acomb Stakes, the over-round has been 114%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £114 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Acomb Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Acomb Stakes Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Acomb Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. The Lion In Winter (1:21.58) in 2024
  2. Dutch Connection (1:22.32) in 2014
  3. Elusive Pimpernel (1:22.45) in 2009

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Acomb Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 2 winners. Backing all 18 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -10.50. Remember to use the racing predictions along with the information on this page to find a bet on the 2026 Acomb Stakes.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2006 renewal when Big Timer I from Ian Semple under the guidance of Tom Eaves, won in a time of 1:27.28, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, The Lion In Winter, trained by A P O'Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore set the quickest time of 1:21.58 in the 2024 renewal.

What the expert says...
From the last twenty renewals, only Too Fast (2nd) in 2013 won this race, having not won last time out, which means that nineteen last time out winners which certainly seems a key trend.
