You know how punters get lost in too much data or bet blindly? I break down the stats and trends so you can feel confident you’re betting with more than just gut instinct.

2026 Spring Mile Preview

Scheduled to take place in either late March or early April of each year at the Doncaster racecourse is the Spring Mile, a race that features on the same day as the Lincoln early in the flat season.

The race usually attracts a large field with 20+ runners normally lining up for this race over a straight mile. The race is a Class 2, which is open to runners aged four or older, and usually, you have to find a yard that has managed to get their runner spot on, as most of these will be making their season debut.

How competitive is the Spring Mile market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2022, when the race had an over-round of 115%. The race in 2007 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 135%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Spring Mile, the over-round has been 128%, which means the bookie expects to pay out ÂŁ100 for every ÂŁ128 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Spring Mile Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Spring Mile Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Spring Mile races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Petrus (1:37.50) in 2019
  2. Manassas (1:37.97) in 2009
  3. Ballet Concerto (1:38.30) in 2017

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Spring Mile next time out, then you would have backed a total of 2 winners. Backing all 20 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -12.00. Whilst we wait for the 2026 Spring Mile, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

When looking over the past 20 renewals, a time of 1:37.50 was set by Petrus in 2019, trained by Brian Meehan and ridden by Tom Marquand, which is the quickest time over that period. The slowest winning time was set in 2023 when Harswell Duke won in a time of 1:48.60 for trainer Roger Fell, who booked Jonny Peate in the saddle.

What the expert says...
One thing to note of late is that looking at the last seven winners of this race, five of those came here having had a prep run on the all-weather last time out, three of which were at Newcastle.
