2026 Oaksey Chase Preview

Featured on the Jump Finale day at the Sandown racecourse in April of each year is the Oaksey Chase. This Grade 2 chase is run over a distance of two miles, six and a half furlongs and was established in 2014 with Menorah winning the first four renewals of the race.

It is named in honour of the amateur jockey John Oaksey, who won the Whitbread Gold Cup in 1958.

For sponsorship purposes, the 2026 renewal of the Oaksey Chase will hold the title of 'bet365 Oaksey Chase'.

How competitive is the Oaksey Chase market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 11 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2021, when the race had an over-round of 107%. The race in 2025 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 117%, whilst on average over the last 11 renewals of the Oaksey Chase, the over-round has been 112%, which means the bookie expects to pay out ÂŁ100 for every ÂŁ112 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Oaksey Chase Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Oaksey Chase Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the Oaksey Chase Trend Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run Oaksey Chase races over the last 11 renewals:

  1. Menorah (5:38.60) in 2015
  2. Black Corton (5:39.60) in 2019
  3. Menorah (5:41.40) in 2017

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 11 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Oaksey Chase next time out, then you would have backed a total of 2 winners. Backing all 10 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -3.37. Remember to bookmark the racing tips page to access the OLBG racing picks easily daily.

Over the last 11 renewals, it was Menorah, trained by Philip Hobbs and ridden by Richard Johnson, who set the fastest winning time in the Oaksey Chase. That runner won the race in a time of 5:38.60 in 2015. At the other end of the scale, it was the combination of trainer Nicky Henderson and jockey Daryl Jacob with Top Notch who set the slowest winning time; the race-winning time was 6:00.50 in the 2018 renewal.

What the expert says...
Frodon (2021) and Hewick (2023) both won this race after running in the Cheltenham Gold Cup last time out. Frodon finished 5th in the Gold Cup, whilst Hewick fell. Menorah (2014 & 2015) ran in the Bowl Chase before winning this, a route that the 2025 winner, Gaelic Warrior, also took.
