It is named in honour of the amateur jockey John Oaksey, who won the Whitbread Gold Cup in 1958.

The race in 2025 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 117%, whilst on average over the last 12 renewals of the Oaksey Chase, the over-round has been 112%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £112 which is bet.

  3. Menorah (5:41.40) in 2017

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Whilst we wait for the 2027 Oaksey Chase, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

The runner that holds the record over the past 12 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2018 renewal when Top Notch from Nicky Henderson under the guidance of Daryl Jacob, won in a time of 6:00.50, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Menorah, trained by Philip Hobbs and ridden by Richard Johnson set the quickest time of 5:38.60 in the 2015 renewal.

What the expert says...
The last three winners have now all come from the Aintree Festival, albeit from three different races! The Topham (2024), the Bowl (2025) and the Mildmay (2026), and before that, the last winner to come from there (2022) was in the Melling Chase!
