The 2024 Cambridgeshire Meeting

The Cambridgeshire Meeting is a three-day 'festival' that takes place at the Rowley Mile course at Newmarket each year in late September and can run into early October. Over the three days of racing, there is a total of twenty-two races, ten of which are class one races with Saturday, the final day of the meeting being the highlight of the three days and a chance to see the progress of the youngsters with five of the seven races being restricted to two-year-old runners.

Moore - Dettori Factor

Over the last ten years, Ryan Moore and Frankie Dettori have a combined total of twenty-one winners ridden on Friday of the meeting, that is eleven for Ryan and ten for Frankie, backing all of their rides on Friday would have resulted in an LSP of +36.06.

Cambridgeshire Meeting - Day One

The highlight on the opening day is the Tattersall Stakes, a Group 3 race for two-year-old colts and geldings, a race where runners who ran in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster are worth a second look and plenty has gone on to win this race after running at Doncaster.

Cambridgeshire Meeting - Day Two

There are three group races on Friday, the Princess Royal Stakes (G3), the Rockfel Stakes (G2) and the Joel Stakes (G2) and is a day to keep an eye on both John Gosden (x14) and William Haggas (x8), the pair has combined for a total of twenty-two winners on the Friday since 2012 from just fifty-four races, backing all of their runners on this day would have produced an LSP of +93.01.

Cambridgeshire Meeting - Day Three

The final day of the meeting is the day that everyone looks forward to as it features the race of the meeting, the Cambridgeshire Handicap, a race which spans two counties, it starts in Cambridgeshire and ends in Suffolk! It's a day when you can see which two-year-olds have progressed over the season and which ones go into the tracker for their three-year-old season as we have the Royal Lodge Stakes (G2), Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) and the Middle Park Stakes (G1), three group races which are all restricted to two-year-old runners. Aidan O'Brien is a man to keep an eye on for the final day, not only does he lead the number of winners (10) but shows a 22% strike rate and an LSP of +50.93 to go along with that since 2016.

There are seven group races at the Cambridgeshire meeting each year and in terms of winners, Aidan O'Brien leads the way by landing twelve of those races over the last ten years, which is double that anyone else has achieved with John Gosden hitting six winners.

When it comes to handicap races, it is Charlie Appleby who leads the way with an impressive 37.5% strike rate with nine winners from twenty-four runners and that is three winners clear of both Andrew Balding and John Gosden.

It may surprise a few that Ryan Moore is up there for handicap wins at the meeting with a total of six winners (from fifty) but it is William Buick who leads the way when it comes to handicaps at the meeting with a total of twelve winners (from fifty-eight) with Oisin Murphy (7 from 42) splitting the pair.

When it comes to wins in Group races, Moore tops the list with nine winners (from sixty rides) but does show a loss of -12.72, behind him with seven wins is Oisin Murphy (from thirty-two) and then both Dettori (from twenty-eight) and William Buick (from thirty-six) with six wins apiece.
