2026 Dee Stakes Preview

Scheduled to take place each year at the Chester Racecourse during the May Meeting is the Dee Stakes, a listed race which is run over a trip of one mile, two furlongs and seventy yards.

The race is open to colts and geldings who are aged three and can serve as a trial for next month's Epsom Derby. The 2003 winner, Kris Kin, was the last runner to go on to win the derby.

For sponsorship purposes, the 2026 renewal of the Dee Stakes will hold the title of 'Boodles Raindance Dee Stakes'.

How competitive is the Dee Stakes market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2015, when the race had an over-round of 108%. The race in 2017 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 119%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Dee Stakes, the over-round has been 113%, which means the bookie expects to pay out ÂŁ100 for every ÂŁ113 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Dee Stakes Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Dee Stakes Trend Analysis. With the field now finalised, we have the Dee Stakes Trend Shortlist, which is created using the listed trends.

These are the top three quickest-run Dee Stakes races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Admiralofthefleet (2:09.82) in 2007
  2. South Easter (2:10.21) in 2009
  3. Capulet (2:10.67) in 2024

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Dee Stakes next time out, then you would have backed a total of 1 winner. Backing all 20 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -15.67. Before placing your bet on the 2026 Dee Stakes, see which other runners today are being backed on the racing predictions page.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2012 renewal when Astrology from A P O'Brien under the guidance of Joseph O'Brien, won in a time of 2:21.57, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Admiralofthefleet, trained by A P O'Brien and ridden by Mick Kinane set the quickest time of 2:09.82 in the 2007 renewal.

What the expert says...
The Epsom Derby is usually the route of the winner. Between 2005 and 2024, ten of the winners went straight to the Epsom Derby; however, those had limited success, Astrology (3rd in 2012) and Cliffs Of Moher (2nd in 2017) being the only notable performers.
