This idiosyncratic track is undulating with many bends, a downhill section, and a testing uphill finish to the line. The adverse camber hampers horses going at 35 mph as forward motion is negated as runners slope towards the rail.

The gradients make it a good track for the handy type of horse, but they can run out of gas if ridden too enterprisingly as they meet the uphill finish where jockeys can be caught out by the steepness of the final 2 furlongs. Due to the nature of the track, track specialists do very well here.

Big horses tend to struggle on the track as you need balance around the turns and the camber. Horses that have run well at Goodwood, Bath, and Epsom should be noted as these tracks are similar in many ways to Brighton.
