Has a strong record at this track and won this race last year on return, showing he can go well fresh. Claimer takes off a useful 3lb and he's well drawn to repeat if ready to fire. Interesting player.

Moore booked for this one. Lightly raced and won easily on reappearance run last time, looking likely to go on to much better things. The one to beat in this.

Scored in a Class 2 at Goodwood (2 miles, good ground) by four lengths off a mark of 83 late last season when with James Fanshawe proving himself a top stayer. Since transferring to James Owen excelled in winning his first three starts over hurdles, two impressive wins at Grade 2 level, before only going down by a length to good sorts in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Looks just the sort of dual purpose horse capable of winning the Chester Cup. Well drawn in stall six and still nicely handicapped, low in this handicap off a mark of 89, allotted just 8 stone 8 pounds. Big shout.

Caballo De Mar looked as good as ever when stuffing the field from the front last time out. Not as proven on the all-weather, but this looks a great chance for this horse on a track he can dictate at.

A low draw is not essential in this big field of 15 runners, but it should help. The Tom Dascombe-trained dual performer Hot Fuss, drawn 3, is relatively unexposed at this staying distance. He did win over 2m on the flat in February and more recently was a good 3rd in the Fred Winter at the Festival over 16.5f.

Since he dotted up here a few starts back you could probably safely wager that this was the plan for Who’s Glen. That win was on Heavy going, but with the slow times this week hopefully that can play into his favour, and he should cope with less juice in the ground anyway. A solid return effort should put him spot on for this, and notably that was a bit further than he’s gone previously and he stayed on well enough off a break. I don’t mind stall 10 given 4 of the last 5 winners have been drawn 10 or higher, and with the majority of held up horses on his outside he could get the best position of those drawn wide. Each of the last 7 renewals has gone to a horse in the top 7 of the weights, so he ticks that box being ranked 5th, with a nice low weight carry to boot.

You only have to look back at this race last year to see what a horror run he had around here. He had a good run last time in Scotland, and that should have put him right for his revenge mission. Massive each way price, inconsiderate in early market, each way NAP.

Race 4 at Chester today is the Chester Cup - Handicap (Class 2) for 4-year-olds and upwards over 3,749 m. The suggested wager is for the each way on the 7-year-old mare Divine Comedy from the Harry Eustace yard, and will be ridden by Kaiya Fraser. This daughter of Le Havre is a talented sort with a haul of 6 wins, is distance suited, and has the services of regular pilot Fraser, who has won on all of her wins bar the first one. She is suited to all going as well as the all-weather track, and has a handy draw too, which will help in this relatively large field. Must be respected here.

Likes it at Chester, having won here in August and September last year. Will strip fitter for his run 28 days ago on 11th April when finishing 5th of 7 in a class 2 over 2m 110yds with a rating of 91. Interesting that R Hornby, who rode him in those previous Chester wins, returns to the saddle with O Murphy switching to Balding's other entrant. Forecast good ground suits with rating down one to 90.

Should be all the better for listed comeback run in their native Ireland and was a Grp 3 winner there last season off today's mark of 103. Not ideally drawn, but likes to come from off the pace anyway so it could actually suit their running style. Very under used jockey booked and top trainer does tend to do very well in these staying races, making current 33/1 worth Ew consideration in the race.

DUKE OF OXFORD has undergone a different preparation ahead of this year's renewal. He was disappointing on the back of a busy build-up in this race last year when relatively well fancied and no doubt the yard are in prime form for his bid this year. The fact yhat he has been campaigned largely on the all-weather tempers enthusiasm slightly , but equally he is not fully exposed on turf and race-sharp now with no stamina issues he could surprise.

An 8 times winner on the flat and 2 times over jumps. The last win came over 2 miles at Southwell in a fast time back in March and two good runs. Stays this trip well and has won over further over hurdles with a wide margin win at Sedgefield last November. Good each way chance today.

Venetia Williams has won this consolation event a couple of times in recent years, so she knows exactly what it takes to win here. So that makes MORNING AIR of interest at a juicy price. This 4-year-old filly has shown some reasonable form in France on the flat and showed well-being when winning a hurdle race in December at Leicester. To be fair, she hasn't shown a lot in 2 subsequent outings but could bounce back if taking a liking to this quirky track.

Happy to take a big price outsider in a race where luck will play a part around this tight track. Stays really well while not being disgraced in the last two runnings of the 2m 2f Cesarewitch. Was 9th in it last time, though 5th of 12 to race on his side and off a mark of 84. Down to 82 now with the jockey taking a further 3lb off. He's not getting any younger but has a reasonable draw and the trainer knows how to get them ready for the big occasion.

Well worth an each-way bet at a huge price. The yard are on form and when trained by John Gosden he showed some ability. Worth the risk at the price.
