The Daniel & Claire Kübler trained Glenridding has won over a mile here last year as a 2yo on this type of ground, so no worries there. He ran okay over ten furlongs last time in a valuable race, and this does represent a drop in class. He should be good enough to prevail in this class 6 h/cap company.

With just the 9 runners going to post for this Class 6 sprint handicap, a chance is taken on the Mark Usher-trained 5-year-old maiden, Shades Of May. He comes here fresh and has been eased a couple of pounds by the handicapper. He is no stable star, but neither are the opposition. E/W play at decent odds.

Trainer Richard Hughes has his horses in fine nick. Star Of Mehmas won 3 of her 4 races last season as a 2-year-old. She progressed when last seen winning in a Listed Stakes at Ayr over 5f by a length last September. The step up in trip shouldn't be a problem, but she does have the coffin draw (12 of 12) to overcome. However, she does have Ryan Moore in the saddle, which is a plus. She has what it takes in this company and won't be far away.

The David O'Meara-trained Young Fire is the 10-year-old veteran of 112 races with 13 wins and 19 places, and 9 wins and 16 places on the turf. He hasn't been at his best in 2023, unplaced in 4 races so far. His handicap mark has slipped to a very tempting one of just 60 and is dropped a grade. If he is on a going day, then this Class 6 handicap looks very doable.
