Scheduled to take place in January of each year at the Gowran Park racecourse is the Thyestes Handicap Chase, a race which is open to runners aged five or older with it being run over a distance of three miles and one furlong in which seventeen fences have to be jumped.

This is a race that can work as a warmup for the Aintree Grand National with plenty of runners from this race going on to run at Aintree with both Hedgehunter and Numbersixvalverde winning this race and the Grand National.
