2027 Thyestes Chase Preview

Scheduled to take place in January of each year at the Gowran Park racecourse is the Thyestes Handicap Chase, a race which is open to runners aged five or older, with it being run over a distance of three miles, one furlong, in which seventeen fences have to be jumped.

This is a race that can work as a warm-up for the Aintree Grand National, with plenty of runners from this race going on to run at Aintree, with both Hedgehunter and Numbersixvalverde winning this race and the Grand National.

How competitive is the Thyestes Chase market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2007 when the race had an over-round of 124%. The race in 2010 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 143%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Thyestes Chase, the over-round has been 135%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £135 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2027 Thyestes Chase Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Thyestes Chase Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Thyestes Chase races over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Siegemaster (6:15.70) in 2011
  2. On His Own (6:26.30) in 2012
  3. Invitation Only (6:29.20) in 2019

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 20 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Thyestes Chase next time out, then you would have backed a total of 6 winners. Backing all 18 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of +0.21. Whilst we wait for the 2027 Thyestes Chase, remember you can get daily racing predictions from the expert tipsters on the racing predictions page.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2024 renewal when Aint That A Shame from Henry De Bromhead under the guidance of Rachael Blackmore, won in a time of 7:18.50, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Siegemaster, trained by D T Hughes and ridden by Davy Russell set the quickest time of 6:15.70 in the 2011 renewal.

What the expert says...
Form coming into this race is not exactly a must; the last five winners finished 7th, 11th, PU, 4th & 4th in their run before coming here, and only two of the last twenty came in on the back of a win.
