Santa Anita Park racetrack, situated in Arcadia, California has been staging race meets since 1934.
With the picturesque backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Anita is recognized as one of the top racetracks in North America and hosted the prestigious Breeders Cup World Championships two-day meeting for the tenth time in 2019 and will be hosting the 40th edition in 2023.
The oval dirt track is one mile in circumference and stages races ranging from two furlongs for the quarter horses and even up to three miles (back in the 1940s).
The main turf course is inside the dirt track and is a very tight circuit just short of a mile, unlike the majority of U.S. tracks it has an extra turf course which is mainly downhill staging races over 6.5 and 12 furlongs and crosses the dirt track on the approach to the final bend before they turn down the final stretch to the wire.
