How to get the best Huntingdon tips

You can imagine that speedy types, especially those flat horses converting to hurdles, would be suited to Huntingdon. Newmarket is only 25 miles away, so many who have their 1st run over hurdles are often from those flat stables.

Nicky Henderson likes this track for his runners and often uses the course for his speedy hurdlers ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, especially the mid-January meeting.

The big race of the whole year is the Peterborough Chase, a Grade 2 event held in December; past winners include Best Mate and Edredon Bleu (4 times).

You tend to get at least one entry in most races from a Grade 1 trainer who looks to Huntingdon as a gentle introduction; the race may not be competitive, which is exactly what the big trainers want when teaching novices or lightly raced types for whom they have high hopes.

As a right-handed course, look for horses who may be aimed at the big prizes at other right-handed courses (Ascot, Kempton and Sandown) later in the season.

Look to Cheltenham Festival contenders competing in January or February at Huntingdon. Terrefort started his UK career in 2018 at Huntingdon and then won at Sandown and Aintree, and ran second at the Festival.
