2027 Burradon Stakes Preview

The Burradon Stakes is a listed race which opens the All-Weather Championships day at Newcastle Racecourse. Established in 2017, this race is contested over one mile (1m5y) on the all-weather surface and is restricted to three-year-old runners.

The race was originally part of the 'Road to the Kentucky Derby' series, a points-scoring series for runners to get into the Kentucky Derby; however, it was removed in 2019 when it was replaced by the Cardinal Stakes.

The slowest winning time was set in 2021 when Megallan won in a time of 1:40.20 for trainer John & Thady Gosden, who booked Robert Havlin in the saddle.

What the expert says...
A few of the winners have gone on to run in the Dante next time out. Forest Ranger (2017) went on to finish 6th, Megallan (2021) finished runner-up, whilst Dear My Friend (2023) didn't have much success, finishing 8th.
