2025 Crown Oaks Preview

Established in 1861 as the VRC Oaks, it retained that title until 2007, when changed to the Crown Oaks. Between 2017 and 2023, the race was known as the Kennedy Oaks; however, in 2024, it reverted to the Crown Oaks.

The race is on day three of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which is known as either 'Oaks Day' or 'Ladies Day' and is two days after the Melbourne Cup.

How competitive is the Crown Oaks market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 10 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2015, when the race had an over-round of 112%. The race in 2024 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 120%, whilst on average over the last 10 renewals of the Crown Oaks, the over-round has been 116%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £116 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2025 Crown Oaks Trends. See which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal. We also have a section that looks at the Crown Oaks Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Crown Oaks races over the last 10 renewals:

  1. Personal (2:36.98) in 2020
  2. Pinot (2:37.25) in 2017
  3. Lasqueti Spirit (2:37.73) in 2016

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? Over the past 10 renewals, if you had followed the winner of the Crown Oaks next time out, then you would have backed a total of 1 winner. Backing all 7 runners who have been out since their win at SP next time out would have returned an LSP of -4.30. Ahead of the 2025 Crown Oaks, why not head over to the racing predictions for tips on other races today?

When looking over the past 10 renewals, a time of 2:36.98 was set by Personal in 2020, trained by Tom Dabernig & Ben Hayes and ridden by Damien Oliver, which is the quickest time over that period. The slowest winning time was set in 2015 when Jameka won in a time of 2:43.34 for trainer Ciaron Maher, who booked Damien Oliver in the saddle.

What the expert says...
Six of the last seven winners took the route of the Wakeful Stakes; four of those six won both, and the other two were runners-up. That means watch out for the top two from the Wakeful Stakes if they come here.
