Historically a Conservative stronghold from 1885 to 1935, with notable Conservative MP Bonar Law serving 1911-1918 before becoming UK Prime Minister, it shifted towards Labour, holding the seat continuously since 1945 despite economic downturns affecting local industries.

Bootle's Political Journey: From Conservative Past to Labour Fortress 🌹🏰

🚀 Since 2015, Bootle under Labour’s Peter Dowd! From a Conservative past 🐘 to a Labour stronghold 💪 since 1945. 1990 brought historic by-elections and odd contenders 🎩🚀. Today, it's Labour’s fortress, hitting a record 84% vote share in 2017! 🏰🌹

Notoriously, in 1990, Bootle had two by-elections, the first leading to Screaming Lord Sutch of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party beating the Social Democratic Party candidate, and the second securing Labour’s Joe Benton, who maintained the seat until 2015. Bootle has been one of Labour’s safest seats, achieving record vote shares, particularly under Peter Dowd in 2017 with 84%. It’s characterized by lower-than-average incomes and a high proportion of social housing.
