Birmingham Ladywood, represented by Labour's Shabana Mahmood since 2010, is a diverse and historically significant constituency covering Birmingham City Centre, Aston, Ladywood, Nechells, and Soho. With a 55.6% ethnic minority population in 1991, it's one of the UK's most multicultural areas.

The constituency faced the highest unemployment rates in the UK during the 2008–09 recession. Despite recent improvements, its unemployment rate was 12.4% in 2014, with an employment rate of 46.6%, compared to the West Midlands' 69.7%. The average house price in Ladywood is £155,000, significantly lower than the national average. A Labour stronghold since WWII, the constituency has seen notable MPs including the first Conservative Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and one of the UK's first three female Muslim MPs, Shabana Mahmood. In 1918, it was contested by one of the first seventeen women parliamentary candidates, Margery Corbett Ashby.
