Constituency Information

Barnsley Central, a constituency in South Yorkshire, has been represented by Dan Jarvis of the Labour Party in the UK Parliament since 2011.

After the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it will experience minor boundary changes and be renamed Barnsley North. The constituency is primarily urban-based, with many middle or low-income earners. The Labour Party has held it since 1983, despite a reduced majority in 2019. The seat was vacated in 2011 by Eric Illsley over an expenses controversy, after which Jarvis won a by-election.
