Every Premier League team’s nutmegs ranked, both for and against

Nothing quite gets the crowd going quite like a nutmeg, whether at a packed Premier League ground or at the local park. They’re one of the most fun parts of dribbling with the ball, but when it comes to the players and teams that are the best at the skill and those which are on the receiving end more than others, who rank the best and worst in the Premier League and Europe?

Premier League Teams

Arsenal top the table as the team that has avoided nutmegs better than anyone else, with an Arsenal player nutmegged just five times in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool is the next lowest in the Premier League, the victims of 20 nutmegs, a considerable jump from Arsenal’s total - putting Mikel Arteta’s side in a league of their own.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, do not fall for the Nutmeg!

And the most susceptible Premier League team to nutmegs is Leeds, who have been on the receiving end of no fewer than 49.

Meanwhile, perhaps surprisingly, Watford are the division’s most potent Nutmeggers, knocking the ball through opposition legs a total of 58 times in the Premier League, though, sadly for them, nutmegs do not equate to points.

Premier League Players

Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis is the Premier League’s most repetitive player when it comes to nutmegs, with 20 to his name this season.

Next is Leeds’ Raphinha and Jadon Sancho on 14 - with the United winger a surprise addition given he’s appeared in just 25 league matches this season.

Wolves’ Francisco Trincao, on loan from Barcelona, is just with 13 for the season, followed by Joao Cancelo with 11 and Wilfried Zaha on nine.

Ronaldo vs Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, who is better? It’s a question as old and time and one that stirs endless social media chat.

messi vs ronaldo at nutmegs

Messi has picked up eight Ballon d’Ors and Ronaldo only six and on the pitch their goals record is almost inseparable.

However, when it comes to nutmegs this season, there is a clear winner, Messi. The Argentine has completed eight this season, with Ronaldo failing to achieve any in the league. The pair are split by Neymar, who has accomplished six.

Best in Europe

Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis sits at the top of the European players with his 20 nutmegs, with the next highest number being 14 from five players, Sancho and Raphinha, as well as Hellas Verona’s Gianluca Caprari, Vinicius Júnior of Real Madrid and Armenia's Patrick Wimmer

With Manchester United only dishing out 34 as a team this year, it’s interesting to see Sancho has done almost half of the team's nutmegs this season.

Out of the ten teams listed, half of which are from the EFL, with Dennis from Watford who are one from the bottom in the Premier League table.

Premier League leaders Manchester City have João Cancelo listed with 11 nutmegs this year, almost a third of the entire teams', with 34 this season.
