Who Are BetMGM Sports?

BetMGM Sports falls under the MGM Resorts International umbrella – an S&P 500 company – along with a portfolio that includes MGM Grand, ARIA and Bellagio, among others. A hugely successful casino and sportsbook in the United States, this is their foray into UK sports betting, partnering with LeoVegas to utilise their technology and platform. In the US, BetMGM is a joint venture with Entain (50/50 split) but Entain has no association with the UK product.

First Impression of BetMGM Sports

By Luke Bradshaw Lee - In this BetMGM UK review, my first view was in September 2023, so what is on show will reflect this date.

I registered online through their desktop – there is no app yet – and was immediately greeted with a slick interface. New bookies can sometimes look a bit rough around the edges, or a bit whacky and trying to stand out from the crowd, this is neither. The black and gold feels very Las Vegas Americana and is all in keeping with expectations.

Welcome offers span the top of the site, while a little notification alert appears on your profile to let you know about the specific offers that have been activated.

In terms of markets, football, horse racing, tennis and greyhounds take centre stage, as does a Rugby World Cup “Golden Try” odds boost, so everything immediately feels familiar and as it should.

BetMGM Sports Live Betting

On a Wednesday morning there was the usual selection of in-play options that we’ve come to expect here in the UK – namely events happening elsewhere around the globe. These were across football, tennis, table tennis and esports. These aren’t as many as offered at other bookmakers at the same time, so clearly there are markets and events not yet covered by BetMGM Sports.

The plus side, however, is that the events that do offer in-play look great. Clean, clear betting options, with stats and an event ticker down the sidebar listing exactly what’s happening in the match. The odds are also very competitive.

BetMGM Sports Live Streaming

As it stands there is live streaming offered by BetMGM Sports on horse racing.

There is a “stream only” on/off toggle at the top of the sports search, which while faded out and unavailable when I visited, does suggest that live streaming is imminent on other sports. 

BetMGM Sports Betting Odds

The short response to this is that BetMGM Sports can absolutely be relied upon for good odds. At first glance they appear competitive, and then diving deeper, while comparing with a number of others, confirms that. Interestingly, for markets across football, tennis and American football, they have longer odds for one side of a match result, and shorter for the opposite, than other sportsbooks, so it may depend on where you want your money to go within a particular event.

BetMGM Sports Betting App or Mobile Site 

This BetMGM Sports review is undertaken across the mobile version, as much as the desktop version, as much as possible. Unfortunately, there is no app currently available. The mobile version of the site behaves in exactly the same way as the desktop version, and that’s a good thing. If anything, the way in which carousels move, and icons slide, feels more at home on mobile. And the main navigation, via the hamburger drop down in the top-left, still feels incredibly intuitive.

BetMGM Sports Football Betting

BetMGM Sports has all the leagues covered that you’d expect. Everything from the Champions League, right down to domestic leagues in Costa Rica, Slovakia or Ecuador, although there is non-league covered. It is slightly odd, however, that they are listed by international (Champions League, Copa Libertadores etc.) it then follows alphabetically, rather than UK first, major leagues (LaLiga, Serie A etc) and then the rest alphabetically. On top of that, there’s no option to favourite or follow leagues, and move them to the top of the pile.

Bet Builder 

With a maximum of 10 selections per bet builder, there is plenty that can keep football bettors interested. There perhaps aren’t the same number of markets in some other bet builder options – we counted 10 different markets for a Premier League match within the build function. It’s not possible to combine separate bet builders into one acca, however.

Golden Goals

BetMGM Sports runs a free-to-play competition across their football betting, similar to those of their competitors. The Golden Goals game involves guessing six correct scores to win up to £2 million. All winners share the jackpot, so it may be split should that be the case. The really good part is that if no one guesses correctly, a guaranteed prize pool is paid out to those with the most correct predictions. 

Cash Out

Unsurprisingly, and reassuringly, cash out is available at BetMGM Sports. It’s a feature that has become an absolute staple of bookmakers, and definitely sets alarm bells going if not listed. It’s also good to see that cash out is offered on a bet that I placed that incorporated one of their welcome offers, something that is often restricted at sportsbooks.

BetMGM Sports Horse Racing

The horse racing section at BetMGM Sports works well. Divvied up into three clear parts thanks to the menu at the top you can choose between “Next Off”, “Meetings” and “Specials and Ante Post”. The Meetings section in particular is laid out clearly, making it easy to find each race, with those where “Each Way Plus” is offered (BetMGM UK’s extra places) brightly signposted by their pink icons.

Race events feature the expected markets, a toggle bar to get to other races at the same meeting, plus live streaming during the event, or video analysis of the runners if the event is pre-race.

BetMGM Sports US Sports Betting

A full range of American Sports can is available, but for ice hockey and basketball, whose major leagues are currently out of season, there aren’t any markets. Given we’re a matter of weeks, rather than months, away from the start of the NHL and NBA seasons, it does seem very odd that there aren’t outright and future markets listed.

American Football Betting

Ordinarily, when landing on an NFL game, or any American football game for that matter, we’d expect to see the game, with market odds listed for the spread, the total and the moneyline alongside. 

At BetMGM Sports, the only thing listed until you click through to the game itself is the moneyline, which feels like a way of catering to UK betting habits eg the average British punter not be accustomed with betting the spread. Similarly, it’s labelled as “handicap”, rather than “spread”, again to fall in line with British bettors. I don’t think this will sit well with American football punters.

I have to say this feels very odd and a missed trick. NFL bettors in this country don’t want to be treated differently, or have things dumbed down, and would much prefer their betting sites to follow US ones in how they are presented. The spread is really what matters, and this should reflect that.

There are plenty of market though, bet builders and cash out are available, and they also do their “Pre-Packs”, essentially pre-built bet builders that offer plenty of variety and creativity at competitive odds.

Given that this is an American company at heart, and this is just the beginning of their time in the UK, it’s worth considering how their output will improve. There’s a good chance that they could well make their way onto our best NFL betting sites further down the line.

Basketball Betting

Rinse and repeat re basketball betting and American football betting at BetMGM Sports: it’s been Anglified. The market depth is good, without being out of this world, but again it just feels odd to be served only the moneyline odds from the off. Spread lines and totals are such a good way to scan, searching for value, or comparing, or even adding to your betslip to create multiples quickly. Not having them listed is jarring to say the least.

Keep tabs on the top basketball betting sites though, to see if they make it onto our list.

Baseball Betting

With around 18 betting markets available for MLB games, BetMGM UK may not offer the most but certainly qualify as an adequate amount, even for enthusiasts. Thrown in, Stats, form, pre-match summaries and current standing all on-site and I was pretty impressed with BetMGM UK as a baseball betting site

I also found Asian leagues from Korea and Taiwan too, along with the now-expected swathe of futures markets for the MLB, World Series and more

BetMGM Sports Darts Betting

The darts offering from BetMGM UK is very good indeed. As an exciting new darts betting site in the UK, it offers decent market depth across a number of different events. As mentioned above, the slick interface means it’s easy to find, and swift to navigate from one competition to the next.  

At the time of reviewing, there were Modus Darts Super Series games happening later in the day, with markets for the weekend’s World Series of Darts Finals also listed including highest checkout, leg betting and different combinations.

BetMGM Sports Snooker Betting

by Steve Madgwick - Snooker is my favourite thing to bet on. I take it seriously and am constantly on the lookout to determine which are the best snooker betting sites. At the time of writing there are markets for the Shanghai Masters.

I’m happy to report that the odds look very good indeed, with longer odds than many other snooker betting sites. With that in mind, BetMGM UK could be great for snooker line shoppers. 

Unfortunately there are only eight different markets listed, approximately half the number of what I’d ordinarily like to see. Markets such as Race To (Frames), 1st Session Winner and Correct Score are all absent, which is a shame to see.

I can’t see BetMGM Sports being my first port of call for snooker betting, but I can absolutely see myself heading there having seen odds on other sites and trying to find longer odds elsewhere. Based on what I’ve seen so far, I’ll find them at BetMGM.

BetMGM Sports Rugby Betting (Union & League)

by Luke Bradshaw-Lee - A big bugbear of mine when it comes to betting is when sportsbooks don’t run sports-specific promotions, or even worse, don’t allow generic promotions to be used on particular sports. Away from football, racing and tennis you see it happening often. Happily, that’s not the case here.

Writing during the Rugby World Cup, and seeing a RWC offer front and centre, is an immediate win. The offer, an 100% profit boost on a World Cup winner selection is particularly generous, but more importantly, exactly what you want to see from a sportsbook. That being a seasonal, event-based direction towards their promotions. 

There needs to be more markets per match, but the odds that they do have are good when compared to our best Rugby betting sites.

BetMGM Sports Cricket Betting

by James Banting - There isn’t a huge amount of cricket on right now. We’re right at the tail of the British summer, if we can still call it that. The Ashes is a distant memory and we’re heading overseas.

That said, there should definitely be some County Championship games and domestic cricket, which there is none of. There are International ODIs, the Asia Cup and the Caribbean Premier League, but that’s your lot. On top of that, the number of markets isn’t nearly enough, and needs filling out if its going to entice more cricket bettors.

Betway currently tops our Best Cricket betting site right now, with huge market depth, great odds and lots of promotions, so perhaps BetMGM UK can follow their lead and up their offering.

BetMGM Sports Tennis Betting

By James Banting - The tennis betting at BetMGM UK leaves me torn. On first glance there appears to be a decent number of events covered, but that quickly dissipates once you see what’s on offer at the same time elsewhere, and realise that there should be quite a bit more. This then flips again when checking the odds, because for most markets, they’re really good. As in, genuinely some of the best out there, making it a must for tennis bettors to, at the very least, check when placing bets.

If they could add in more markets, and some tennis-specific promotions, they’d definitely be closer to getting into the top 10 tennis betting sites on OLBG.

BetMGM Sports Golf Betting

The downside is that there is no future markets for upcoming events further away – so no Ryder Cup or Solheim Cup outrights later in the year, or markets on next year’s majors listed. 

BetMGM Sports Motorsports Betting

Of course, the F1 grand prix takes centre stage, understandably, and Formula 1 has its own title on the navigation, as is typical of most UK sportsbooks. Under “motor sports” you’ll find everything else, including Speedway, Superbikes, Supercars and NASCAR (Cup Series, Truck Series and Xfinity Series all in there).

F1 is particularly deep, with plenty of markets and driver specials for the upcoming Grand Prix.

Handball Betting

Betting on handball at BetMGM Sports looks pretty good overall. There are plenty of competitions and events listed to bet on - Champions League, as well as domestic competitions in Denmark, Romania and Hungary, among others. Handball is increasingly popular and BetMGM UK looks to be providing a platform for punters to bet on various handball events and tournaments worldwide. Within games, the market listing is great, with match odds, handicaps, double chance and half betting.

Volleyball Betting

For punters betting on volleyball at BetMGM Sports, there are more than enough volleyball events and tournaments to keep you interested.

With the European Championships currently being played, there are accompanying stats, as well as standings for the tournament, in the sidebar. Each game has around 20 markets covered, ensuring that the volleyball offering is right up there with others in the industry.

Cycling Betting

BetMGM Sports offers betting on cycling for sports bettors who like to dabble in cycling betting, and comparing it with others out there it’s what we’d expect. There are futures for next season’s tours, while the Vuelta d’Espana, currently mid-race, is covered in a broad enough depth. 

Aussie Rules Football

In the UK Aussie Rules maybe be one of the more niche betting options, but it’s worth factoring in that there are few, if any, sports that rival the statistics on offer for the most intense, fast-paced sport south of the equator - AFL betting is available for at BetMGM Sports, and it’s actually covered pretty well. 

Both the men’s and women’s AFL competitions are covered, although there’s nothing below that. In games themselves, there’s result, margin betting, half time, quarter markets and a few others.

Esports Betting

It’s worth checking OLBG’s betting sites for esports because at some point, BetMGM Sports could make that list. Everything is here that you’d wish to see – League of Legends, CS:GO, DOTA2, Overwatch 2, Rainbow 6 and so on. If you have an interest in esports betting, then there will undoubtedly be options for you here.

Political Betting

By Nigel Skinner - At the time of this BetMGM Sports review, there is a pleasantly well-covered area in terms of political betting. Split by date, there are British by-elections covered, next year’s General Election, US Presidential election and the London Mayoral election, plus a number of different markets titled “In the Spotlight”, which essentially translate as specials or one-off markets. These include the market for the Next Conservative Leader and so on.

There are a decent array of political betting options for punters interested in political betting to participate and enjoy the experience.

Entertainment and Specials

by Jake Ashton - I could only find a smattering of Specials markets, titled TV & Novelty. These include outright odds on upcoming reality competitions such as Strictly Come Dancing and BBC Sports Personality of the Year, as well as a number of different markets for winners of The Emmys.

Virtual Sports

Probably not a decision killer, but BetMGM Sports do not seem to have Virtual sports available for betting.

Yes, and it’s a big one. BetMGM made its name as a casino site, pivoting into the sports betting world. Even when you’re using their sportsbook, there is still a large “Casino” tab at the top of their menu. Check our Casino Sites page for dedicated new online casinos and slot sites.

BetMGM Sports Account Opening Process

This was very easy. A couple of clicks, enter the most basic of personal information (name, DOB, email and phone number etc.) and you’re pretty much done. When you want to make your first deposit you’re given a code by SMS/text to verify that it is in fact you, but once that’s done you’re good to go. 

BetMGM Sports does stipulate by email that they may ask for proof of ID at some point, but we didn’t receive any of those requests at this point.

 

Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]

The quickest, most efficient way of answering this is that the two are pretty much identical. The overall design is clean, uncluttered and incredibly easy to navigate. The drop down menu in the top-left of the screen is the fastest way to different parts of the site – your profile, details, wallet etc. – plus more general pages such as the BetMGM blog, safer gambling tools and customer support.

Placing a bet

This section should only really highlight if there are issues, as the process is almost identical on every site. Within ten minutes of signing up to BetMGM Sports I placed a couple of bets on different sports, one of which took advantage of the welcome offer, while the other was a rugby odds boost. Both were incredibly easy to do, and both have cash out options under the My Bets tab, meaning even if I had made an error, I could easily get my full stake back should I choose.

Managing your account

As mentioned above, the hamburger drop down is your go-to in terms of site navigation and account management. My offers, wallet, profile, history and log out are all here, as well as other parts of the site. When not in the menu, and just using the site normally, this hamburger will have a red notification symbol (with the number of notifications that you have inside).

Mine were offers that I hadn’t yet claimed but were entitled to, but going forward I’m sure things like changes to my terms and conditions would also be highlighted here.

BetMGM Sports Review Summary 

Overall, BetMGM’s UK sportsbook feels like a steady dipping of the toe into British sportsbook waters. The product is good, the site is excellent, there are very competitive odds, and the functionality is right up there with anything else in the industry. 

However, there are some decisions that have been made that definitely need ironing out – over compensating for UK fans of American sports, for example. Also, the welcome offer is very good, and football has bonuses covered, but there needs to be more (odds boosts and similar) across other sports. 

It’s a solid start, but with room for improvement, and given the resources that they have, we expect them to makes those improvements rapidly.
